Comment:
Completely unhelpful , arrogant. Treats you like your inferior as a person and ascerts you "should know" when asking Any reasonable question. I've been sent to him by professors to answer many of my questions regarding classes, graduation etc. And was almost always dismissed immediately like It wasn't worth his time.

Everyone talking bad about Jackson obviously doesn't know him very well. I came up a little short on seminars, concerts and ensembles before graduation and he absolutely bent over backward to help me out. Don't get me wrong, I still got lectured about it, but I'll never forget how much he did to get me graduated. Deep down he's a great guy.

Comment:
Likes to talk far too much. He fancies himself more intelligent than he is, so he often searches for "big" words to sound smarter...but these pauses cause his students to zone out a and completely miss what he is trying to say. Obviously knowledgeable about percussion...I learned nothing, however,

As a percussionist this class bored me to tears. I didn't agree with a lot of things that he said. He is definitely a more "old-school" percussionist. He likes to hear himself talk, the hour goes by rather slowly. He is very direct, so you can't be timid when talking to him. Try to take this class with some friends and it won't be so bad.

Dr. Jay was great... he is busy, but has met with me outside of class to both advise and to just chat. Honestly, as marching director he wasn't as strict as I would have liked, but to others he was too strict. Happy ballance? Deep down I think he misses Marching & BB Band. Great guy!

Dr. Jay is a good man. He DOES know what he is talking about and you can learn from him if you keep your mind open to new ideas. Most people do not know how to read him, but take it for what it is and don't read into anything. He is there to help.

If you are on his good side, you will be fine. He's a kind man and tries to be humourous about all situations. Very busy, but of course, what assistant dean or other department head isn't?! When not, he won't hesitate to help if you need anything.

I really liked playing in an ensemble under Dr. Jackson, and conducting class was alright, except for when he would lecture, since he does like to hear himself speak. Overall I like Dr. J though.

My first 2 years with Dr. J, he was the Dir. of Bands. last 2 years, he became Ass. Dean. and that is exactly what he became. He used to be a very caring man, then he became too busy to deal with anyone. I miss the old Dr. J.
