Aggressively mediocre. Didn't hate her, didn't love her. Graded really hard, and was redundant with lectures, but cares about what she's talking about.

Professor Yarbrough is tough but fair. She is also one of the most inspiring and passionate lecturers with whom I have ever come into contact. Her office hours are extremely helpful and class discussions are always engaging (but make sure you do the readings). Best professor I've ever had at Bowdoin.

Go into her class with confidence; be open-minded, and if you are a liberal, try to grasp her perspective before countering; make her acquaintance: her comments on your draft will guarantee a B or above. Do the reading. Think. Think. Think. And you will learn, survive, and feel proud of what you've earned at the end.

I took 3 courses and wrote an Honors Thesis with professor Yarbrough. She is one of the best Bowdoin has to offer. For papers and discussion it's the same story: If there's a textual basis for your argument/opinion it's respected and met with approval. If you're not willing engage w/ the material don't take this prof.

Freshmen: Unless you are well prepared, steer clear from this professor until you get into the swing of things. Mature students only will succeed.

Lots of short papers and long readings throughout the semester. It can definitely be a tough class, but Professor Yarborough is really knowledgeable about the subject material. Overall, the class was okay.

Professor Yarbrough is phenomenal. Those who interpret the text differently won't be punished. My best grade on a paper was one where I strongly disagreed with her argument. However, if you don't support your claims or there is not a textual basis for your interpretation, you won't do well. For a professor who will challenge you take her class!

Professor Yarbrough is an incredible professor. She is brilliant and challenges students. The class I was in may be the most interesting class I've ever taken. She's definitely one of the best at Bowdoin. I'm a liberal and had no trouble with her conservatism. I can't say enough good things about her. Definitely take a class with her.

Professor Yarbrough is one of the professors that makes Bowdoin what it is. Do not go into this class thinking you will get an easy A, and don't take it just to fill a requirement. Do take it if you want to expand your thinking. She's insanely helpful in office hours; you absolutely must go to them. She is conservative, but it isn't obvious.

Avoid this teacher at all costs. She teaches because she likes to her herself talk. Any type of disagreement from her extremely neo-conservative opinions will severely hurt your grade. She is disgustingly inconsiderate of her students opinions and will try and insult you in any way she can to give the false appearance of her being an intellectual

Comment:
She is brilliant and quirky and expects thorough reading of the material before class, and its worth it because she teaches it well. She welcomes personal opinions and comments, but you have to have an intelligent way to back them up. She will only guide you in papers, expect to be challenged, but you will walk away more intelligent than before.

Comment:
Professor Yarbrough is tough and says herself she would not mind living in the 18th century. Your writing will get a harsh critique. She recommends you read Struck & White (really formal writing style book) but you won't even get the chance probably. She's thoroughly conservative and uses her "wit" to whittle you down. Just laugh along and smile.

awful. i didn't do well on her papers because she doesn't like anything that strayed from the interpretation she taught. eventually a teammate advised me to write what she said verbatim in class and incorporate it into my papers. she would literally circle any phrasings i used and write 'very good!' not exactly the sign of a great teacher.

Professor Yarbrough is one of the best professors at Bowdoin, although that is something not usually recognized until after the fact. Not for the faint hearted, athletes, or sociology/anthropology majors, she teaches a difficult subject (political philosophy) and takes it seriously. Take American political philosophy with her, best class at Bowdoin

This woman is the best professor that Bowdoin has to offer. Students who complain about her grading or teaching style are just used to grossly inflated grades and never having to use their brains. Yarbrough is an amazing, passionate prof who is a true scholar in her field. No gov major should graduate without taking a class with her.
