Good teacher, wants to help. Take this class for requirement because you can totally change your paper grades with a re-write. Go to her office hours and write her opinions on the tests and get an A

Comment:
She's a militant liberal who studied under Raymond Williams and punishes students who show the faintest sign of disagreement. If you're female or a member of an underrepresented minority group, you will do well. If not, steer clear: intelligence will not help you. She communicates poorly, both orally and in writing, and has little to offer. Say no!

How to do well in Pfaelzer's class: Keep up with the reading, contribute to discussion once in a while, attend class (don't miss more than 2 or 3). If you are having trouble, talk to her. She is very helpful and truly cares about her students. She is opinionated, but she'll respect you if you use the texts to back up your opinions.

She's a very nice person and really does want to help you do well in her class. However, she really isn't open at all to anyone else's interpretations of the assigned readings. This really takes away from the class because all you can do is listen and pretend to agree that everything is about slavery.

She's a bit expressivist for UD but overall I felt she was open to opinions. She encourages students to support thier arguments from the text and as long as you can do so you do fine. 5 response papers 2 exams and 1 paper; The class isnt hard and she is interested in discussion. her text choices attempt to show diversity in amer lit, not sexism.

Berkeley's finest, ehem. This professor wandered into UD from some beat cafe in San Francisco or Greenwich Village. Looks like a crazy person. Lisps like Sylvester the Cat. Teaches 19th Cent Lit. like it's only about women, by women. If I found her on 42nd Street pushing a shopping cart and muttering to herself I wouldn't be surprised.

the people who like her do so because they got a good grade...the people who dont like her HATE her because she has no idea what she is doing. her class was about as insightful as a punch to the nuts. Unoriginal thoughts, for those who say she opened doors you must have had pretty small doors. As if its smart to say Catch 22 is ironic...well duh!?!

terrible....just terrible. doesnt make the class interesting at all, marks you way down on things unless you think exactly in the same way as she does, and never knows what the hell is going on. i have no idea why theyre paying her to teach. she should be paying the students, its that bad.

Comment:
do not take this class. You will mutate into some replicated clone capable of spewing philosophical b.s. back at her, but your own insights are unwelcome. unclear, reads far too into things, tough grader, and for the most part, chooses relatively predictable texts and tries to analyze them as something they are not. This class ruined Lit for me.
