His teaching style is horrible. I've tried to avoid him but he was the only teacher for this course...

Makes you feel stupid for asking questions; seems unwilling to help. Teaches one thing, then tests on another (punching 25 pair CAT5; we learned one color scheme, then he introduced an entirely different cable with a different color scheme for the test). Don't take any classes from Prof. Cold if you can avoid it!

One of the worst professors I have ever dealt with. He should not be teaching this (or any) course. I definitely recommend never taking anything from him. Quizzes are weighted heavily & have ridiculous, irrelevant questions (on lesson 3 question 2, what wallpaper was the default?). Most don't do well on quizzes, and they are not graded on a curve.

Long lectures, only teaches from slides, tests have very specific questions from random parts of the text or slides, in class quizzes daily. Quizzes and tests make up 80% of the grade, service project was 20%. Homework was never turned in or graded for credit. Quizzes were online. I don't think Prof Cold graded anything besides the final project.

He really isn't a good teacher. It is purely lecture based and he seems really outdated. He recommends software that isn't in use for today's standards. I wouldn't recommend taking any class from him.

This professor is incredibly egotistical and has given wrong information in class. I have had a pretty extensive knowledge of Windows already which is why I was able to identify some of the false information he was teaching. Also on the exams he would show very irrelevant and distracting picture on the questions, (ex a random girl with red hair.)

Absolutely atrocious. The service project is an ok idea, but the way he has students do it and report on it is terrible. He is absolutely no help in class and is rude when questions are asked during his lectures. If he put as much effort into actually teaching as he does into TRYING to be funny, he might be an adequate professor.

Cold is a good teacher if you hear when he says the first time. There were a lot of times where I couldn't hear or see his demonstrations (with the entire class huddled around him showing you something on tiny wires). When I would ask a question, he would make you feel stupid about asking.

This was my 3rd class from Professor Cold during my undergraduate studies at UVU. The first 2 experiences were not great. But this last one changed everything. Jeff Cold has changed for the better! He sill expects alot from his studends. He is more helpful, kind and respectful now. He works harder to teach students that don't understand

It would've gone a lot smoother if the Microsoft Lab Worksheets were graded, but the one class period each week wasn't enough. He just drones through the powerpoints, and the tests were extremely difficult. The service project is a decent concept, but very poorly implemented. I haven't learned much at all in his class, and not for lack of trying.

I wouldn't say that he doesn't have any knowledge, he just uses old online Cisco materials that are really boring (no books required). You cannot avoid him because he is the only one who teaches cabling. The worst thing about his class is quizzes and tests, where half of the questions are not related to the course. Other than that it's not hard.

Easy class, but that was the only plus. Required 10 hour service project that must be uploaded on an outdated eportfolio site. Quizzed on materials before learning them in class. Sometimes refused to stop slides to answer questions or explain, even turning hostile when some things were asked. Not knowledgeable. Can't avoid for Win 7 (yet),so endure!

Professor Cold seemed ignorant of the topics he was teaching. His slides were from previous years and didn't seem to be updated to reflect current topics. It often felt like he hadn't prepared for class and expected us to do labs that he himself hadn't even done. I had previous Linux experience so I did well, but I didn't quality instruction.

Well entrenched professor who has positioned himself as a gatekeeper for all IT students, also one of the least knowledgeable professors I have taken a class from, the kind that kills your interest in a subject. He equates briefly mentioning a subject with teaching it. Just grit your teeth and get it over with. I love Linux, but I HATED THIS CLASS!

Took class online. Some of the assignments were confusing and didn't work like instructions said. Research paper a waste of time for class in my opinion. Sometimes vague on grading. That said class wasn't to bad and was great for exposing you to various technologies and teaching basic skills for using them. Professor worked with me on late work

being a linux admin of 8 years i did learn a couple cool tricks but that was due to the book and not the professor. Anything the professor teaches is 10 years old and the class he teaches should do independent study or online. The professor is rude, obnoxious, and disrespectful to all walks of like, and he dislikes Mormons. Worst teacher.

This professor has lost touch with reality as he brushes you off with little to no direction. What's required: 1-Term Paper (10pg w/10+ sources); 1-Service Learning (20hrs + 1 portfolio + 1 poster); 1-Book Review (group presentation); Expect to spend most of your semester on a class that has nothing to do with Advanced Linux Administration!

This is a horrible instructor. He thinks you are taking an English class. I have taken 3 college level English classes and aced them all yet he is the only instructor to grade me poorly on my term paper. He uses websites that aren't affiliated with the school. I DO not recommend him to anyone. He grades on structure not content.
