I had Dr. Davis for 350 and 553 and did my research with him. He's a hell of a professor, and if you put the work in you'll learn tons from him. He can definitely be condescending but he gets so excited about physics it can be infectious if you're interested in the same things. Research with him was excellent; 4 publications including a 1st author.

Best physics teacher I've ever had. He's there not just to make you regurgitate the physics, but to really understand what is going on. Homework and tests are fair, work hard.

Awesome professor. Made me feel like going to sdsu is finally worth it. He's tough and will make you work, but it's not that bad. Like the person said below, he turns iron into steel

There's a lot of bad reviews about Davis but he is really not that bad. Yes these classes are hard but they're suppose to be. He does everything he can to make sure you understand the physics and pushes students because that's the only way physics can be learned. There is nothing that can make these classes easy, but they are worth it.

Davis is will treat you like you don't know anything, then he will laugh at you. Have fun taking 350, just pray he retires soon so you don't have to take him.

It's been many years since I took his class, but user below me hit it right on the head. I didn't do my research with him, had the highest grade in the class (a solid A) and once he knew I was doing my research with someone else - bang B+ with no reason behind it. Asked about the grade, he double talked and said something about stats - AVOID!!!!!

Prof Davis is horrible. I remember almost crying in my room because of a horrible thing he did to me. If you are a physics major, you are stuck with him. But you have the power to get him removed! Don't do your senior thesis with him!! I know grad students who worked with him who HATE his guts.DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT do your thesis with him!!!!

This man is condescending, disrespectful, and though he shows enthusiasm for learning the subject he is quick to beat you down and make it easy for you to just give up, if you fall short of his A list. At no options: read, study, due the homework and know the problems back all while kissing his tired out behind.

Decent professor, very enthusiastic about subject. Yes he can make you feel stupid (he even called me a coward! - though rightfully so since I avoided writing on the board); But in the end, that fear is suppose to motivate you to try hard(er), in an attempt to not be as intimidated by him, or the material. Do the hw and study it (exams are very similar to hw problems). Very generous grading scale.

He's tough at first, wants you to drop. Knows his physics though. Makes you feel like an idiot for stupid Q's. Not a great teacher, just flys through material. Try your best to keep up, towards the end he lightens up considerably. You have no choice, hes the only teacher for this class... good luck

More a drill instructor than a teacher. His objective is demotivation! Has an overly high opinion of himself. My advice to you--don't take him. My advice to him--quit playing God. 1) you're not good at it and 2) the position is taken

One of the best physics teachers. He is loud, a little conceted but also helpfull and forward with his students. The class is anything but easy unless you are very good at physics and math (diff eq and intigration).

I actually enjoyed being in this class, which is saying a lot based on how much I dreaded taking it. Davis is extremely helpful and friendly and does not hate astronomers. He'll only give you a tough time if you're obviously not trying. So just put in some effort.
