Jeff was a fantastic professor. We had to write every day in our journals, but it was valuable and helped with the final project. Class had a lot of writing exercises that helped get the page count we needed for the end of the semester. Great class structure, and he genuinely cares about you as a student and a writer. Absolutely recommended.

Jeff is the greatest professor I've had at Pitt. My writing has grown so much from the classes I've taken with him. If you care and you work hard, he will support you and also challenge you to be the best writer you can be. He gives excellent feedback and his poetry class is very informative--you'll learn how to write all sorts of poems.

Jeff meets you where you are in your writing and makes you a better writer. You will be surprised at what you create. He makes you love sentences. As long as you display an interest and willingness to work, he will help you more than you can imagine. He takes the fear out of writing.

A nice guy and entertaining professor, but he's NOT helpful in terms of building one's writing skills. He beats around the bush, and is willing to bash your work but does not clarify why. I would visit him for help, but he was pretty incompetent. He's ruined my confidence as a writer, and I'm a writing major. Take him at your own risk.

Most writing classes are designed in a way that helps students become better at the things they are already good at. Jeff wants to introduce you to new things, to make you uncertain about the things you know?of form, genre, and medium. His class will be invaluable to you as you are in the process of making your creative writing meaningful.

I love him with all my being, what can I say? He's NOt an easy teacher! Despite what the rating says. He's not a ****, but he forces you to better yourself. There's no such thing as an 'easy A' in his class. Trust that you've to earn it. As far as teaching goes, he's the best thing at Pitt. His heart is in everything he does.

When I enrolled for Jeff's Autobiography and Creative Impulse class, I had no idea what to expect from it or him. But what I got was a professor that's-by my definition-fun to have as a teacher and to just talk to-and he managed to do this while challenging me as a writer.

Jeff is an honest and enthusiastic teacher. He expects a lot from his students, but he is so interesting that you hardly notice you're working. You almost want to prove to him how great of a student you can be. he is truly influential as a writer and as a teacher. I have tried to take one of his classes each semester.
