WOW- I took Dr. Sarquis' class in 1983 and he stunk then. Nice guy, horrendous teacher. I have gone on to be a science teacher myself,26 years of extremely successful teaching. I wanted to leave science after his class. I was there to learn, not teach myself. Glad he was not my standard for teaching, glad he was a model for being nice

i failed out of this course with another professor. and I loved this guy. easy going, friendly, extremely helpful. his exams are very do-able if you put in a few hours before each exam and pay attention in class. can't go wrong by taking a class with this guy. i'd definitely take him again.

Never in my life have I been more upset with a professor. He makes the material way harder than it needs to be and...oh wait - he DOESN'T teach anything. We have to teach ourselves. You can't teach yourself something you don't understand. That's why you have professors who know the material and can actually teach it to you. Not the case here.

He is a great professor as long as you understand his teaching style. You need to read over the material and get a grasp on it and then he does examples and further clarification in class. Clicker Quizzes and Online-Homework are a great grade booster and he's willing to curve your grade up!! Overall a great professor!!! I loved his class!

Really nice guy! but tends to make material seem more confusing that it is. clicker questions & online homework are helpful & its pretty cool how he does demonstrations in class. He posts practice exams online which are nice. He makes a lot of math errors during lecture so watch out for that.

Horrible professor. First day of class says "I cannot teach, I can only coach." He was right--you have to teach yourself. For all Sarquis' stupid "theories of learning" and love of jargon, he knows nothing about actually teaching.

I LOVE JERRY!!! Although he sometimes wanders absent mindedly around the front of the classroom, Jerry is a great guy. He always is enthusiastic about lectures and his powerpoints. He LOVES chemistry. He does many experiments in front of the class which keep class lively. Attendence is mandatory because of clicker points.

Worst chem teacher i have ever taken. Tests are hard, his lectures make no sense, his slides make no sense, he makes you come to class by a clicker, not helpful, sometimes doesn't even understand what he's trying to teach. Never take him because he will just bring down your GPA

Not an easy class but no chem class is easy. At times staying awake was difficult, but in general I enjoyed Sarquis. Gives points for attendance, clicker responses, and online homework which personally I needed. Also, drops lowest of four tests. I appreciated his humor, experiments, and effort in trying to make us find chemistry interesting.

Hmf I can see why people don't like this guy. Frankly I got a little p'd at him at times. In the end Im satisfied enough to take him again. Why? I like teaching myself with supplementation of the printed notes, learning how to maneuver through this guys class, and going to lecture to get attend pts. Disconnect from lecture and teach yourself.

HORRIBLE...avoid him as a teacher at all cost. He is not clear and his exams are really hard. The one nice thing is that he posts all exams from previous years for you to study from. None of the experiments that he did in class worked which was amusing.

Such an AMAZING teacher. honestly if people say they don't like him... don't listen. he is the most helpful, cutest old man who cares about his job soooo much. he's not that great at explaining things but he genuinely wants his kinda to do well. i got 100%'s on two of the four tests. just study his old tests on e-reserves and you'll be golden.
