Not approachable and he likes to have things his way. Slides are brutal and he usually shows them to you after you've started a project. You're on your own. You learn more from Brian in the one or two days in the workshop then you learn from Jim for the entire year. Sometimes cracks querky jokes though. He has his moments though I guess.

Jim is a very smart man and he has a lot to offer to students. It's true that he lacked enthusiasim and it was very apparent that he had seen every idea done before. If you find out what inspires him you can really learn a lot, but unfortunately for us budding artists, plants are more of his inspiration these days.

Great instructor -- learn to put a lot of quality effort behind any ideas you have and you'll do well. If you have good ideas/concepts but do not put in for good craftsmanship you wouldn't do so well. Is frank and earnest with critiques -- something I wish more art instructors at Langara would try.

I respect him, but just don't like it when he trys to act as if he is tough. C'mon, who does he think he is? He is very negative and it really gets into my nerves! Once he dumped my project into the trash telling that he didn't know who's it was...while there was my BOLD name written on it!!?? WTF

He has lots of knowledge, I'll give him that. He knows what HE wants in your project, you definately gotta compromise your art about 50/50 to get a good grade. Learn mostly about creating well-built art, not building good conceptual art.
