yes... he is hard to understand due to his muttering, but if you go to him for extra help outside of class, you can tell he really tries. he tries to engage with his students by bringing up current events or something he thinks theyd be interested in. his assignments were not too hard either and he is quite flexible.

Jim Daems' lectures: severely disorganized, scattered, repetitive, and irrelevent to most essay topics and final; essay topics: late (1st one) and uninspired; final: difficult b/c poorly structured, and material was only glossed over in lect, or not mentioned at all. Never have I had an instructor that blatantly bored, and consequently, rude.

I am just entering my fourth year of English, and Daems stands out as one of my favourite profs by far. Be prepared for a very different style, be prepared to be challenged. I think he's a genius.

Jim tries, he really does. I give him credit. He is a nice professor with a mumbley voice. Perhaps the mumbles are what completely disengages the class. He uses a microphone and still, notes become unfinished because of sheer number of words that go unheard. He is a good teacher...but it's hard to learn when you can't hear.

1057 Students-BEWARE! This prof couldn't engage the class. He cannot lecture! He should be in a boxed office talking to the walls, b/c that is what he was really doing in lectures. He took students theories from Tutorials and presented in next week lectures! Terrible prof, don't waste your time!

By far the worst prof I've had in 5 years. This mumbly little man couldn't make anything sound interesting. He's a brutal marker who offers no help outside of class and vague guidelines. It's like he goes out of his way to make his class boring. Whoever rated him as hot has severe issues.

Jim is an awsome guy, very funny in a dry sort of way. Knows his stuff and has an honest interest in it. Gives the impression he is just a student but just happens to be at the front of the class talking the whole time. When doing papers be specific and drive a single point home until exhausted.

I was lucky enough to have him for my tutorial because I didn't understand his lectures at all. They were very dry and political, but if you managed to take good notes, you'll find that they'll help you for the final and papers. Pretty nice marker though

Mumbles, Soft voice, Can't hear a darn thing. I even sat in the front of his lecture and still couldn't understand his swallowed syllables. He seems nice and very intelligent. TA marked my work, not sure on his grading.
