He teaches straight from the powerpoint, which is posted on Bb, so you're not encouraged to attend class. Hardly works out problems, and doesn't encourage participation. I was an exceptional chemistry student before I took him. I'll be lucky to pass with a C. Avoid him. I heard anyone in the chemistry department is better.

He was the WORST chem professor I have EVER had! I'm retaking the class now with Soult and she is SOOOO much better! Woodrum is the best if you can get into her section, I had her my first semester for che104

I used to love chemistry, so that's why i decided to take it in college. But mr. holler is primarily a research professor and teaching seems to be second to that. He doesn't work problems in front of the class and so it's very difficult to learn much. The homework is hard and must be correct for points. Take ms. woodrum instead!

Holler was the worst chemistry teacher I've ever had. As an A/B student...I almost failed his class and was lucky to get a C. He goes off on tangents, is always far behind other classes so the exams are awful, and reviews the day of the exam...which consists of him telling you the chapters you need to cram. Overall do waht you can to avoid him!

He doesn't put the powerpoints up until days after he has given a lecture on it. He doesn't respond to emails, and he always gets behind all the other classes. He reviews material that will be on the test on the same day as the test.

oh my gosh!!he was sooo awesome....he gave so many demonstrations of the related topic, he took his time to make sure every one understands...i loved the teaching and i feel people blame their not passing the exams on the professor which is not nice at all...:)

This class was horrible. I had to teach myself the material. Holler would go off on random tangents and once spent 15 minutes of class lecturing on why UK does not use "curves." I was told to get out of his class, but I decided to give him a chance. I regret not switching out. He does not care whether or not his students pass the class.

He wasn't really a horrible teacher; he definitely knew what he was talking about. However CHE 105 has common exams, and he was always behind in class and never emphasized things that were on the exams. So although I felt like I learned from him, my grade didn't reflect that.

Just read straight from the PP slides. Did a lot of cool in-class demonstrations. Easily gets off subject causing the class to get behind. On the bright side, he did make a list of everything that he believed would be on the exam the class before or day of the exam. If it gets too confusing I recommend sitting in on Woodrum's lectures.Nice guy tho!

He gets behind really easily, but that's because he does a lot of inclass demonstrations which are cool. Not boring teacher, he just gets sidetracked at times

I took CHE 105 my first semester, and I had Dr. Holler. I had him at 8 AM on T/R. Oh boy, needless to say, Tuesdays and Thursdays started off bad. He did a lot of cool lab demonstrations though. The relevance? None. He's very condescending to students with questions as well. Had there not been clicker attendance, I wouldn't have gone.

Dr Holler is a horrible professor. If you are not completely comfortable with chemistry, I would suggest that you take another professor. He did useless experiments, told random stories, talked about unimportant things and in the end he had to rush to fit in the material. My class was always behind. Plus, he started sending lectures through email.

I personally don't think this man should be allowed to teach this course. When you go to his office hours, he is less than helpful and doesn't do much to HELP you, he just asks you more questions. If possible, take someone else and spare yourself the headache.

If you are good at chemistry go ahead and try him. I was not very good at chemistry though and need things explained better than the book does, and Holler did not rise to the occasion. I visited his office once regarding a score on a test, and he flat out insulted me, to which I said thank you and left quite angry. His class is full of experiments

CHE 105 is HARD, but Holler doesn't make it any easier. He is more interested in doing experiments then showing how to do example problems. I went to every single class and put in at least another 6 hours a week...and I still have a C. At the end I started sitting in on Woodrum's classes and I feel better prepared for the final.

I'll be honest, chem105 is a difficult subject. However I have a B with Holler and what it amounts to is how much time you put in. If you are disciplined, it really shouldn't be a problem. Afterall it is college. Read the book, do the exercises just like he tells you and you'll be fine. Going to class is a bit of a plus as well.

Holler is horrible. Take Woodrum if you are taking 105. He wastes time in class talking about useless information and doing useless experiments. I sat in on Woodrums classes and thought it was heaven. She explains everything so clearly. Holler also has to rush to get all the information for the next test in on the last day.

So I would have to say that since che105 is a lecture you will learn majority of it on your own.For me, coming to class was practically useless, though holler isn't to boring. I would recommend taking the course from woodrum, I have heard great things about her. All in all I dont think the professor matters to much since you have common hour exams

Mr. Holler has a great sense of humor. He'll make you laugh and all, but he treats the class as a lab. You do not get much accomplished. He falls behind. Don't take his class. Take woodrum when you can. TRUST ME. Its not worth the stress.
