Comment:

Knapp is hilarious. He is tough but he teaches you what you need to know. A lot of study time is going to be expected. Knapp is passionate about his students and the work he does. He really knows his stuff and if you listen you will learn a lot. His lectures are not fun but honestly, no lecture is fun. His labs are where the real run is! Great guy

I took genetics with Jim and it was a super difficult class. Labs were fun but the lectures was boring. He expects you to not just regurgitate definitions but to really understand processes. He was always willing to help out students and he usually was always easy to catch in his office if you had questions. He's very bad at handing work back!!!

I had Knapp for microbiology and for genetics. Micro was better. You really have to work and labs are like a whole other course. When the class is doing bad he does help out though. Pretty funny at times but runs out of steam. If you ask for help and are interested he will be there for you. Genetics labs had a lot of failures and wait times.

He is an amazingly passionate professor. You can tell he loves his students. If you need help, ask him! STUDY FOR HIS TESTS! He expects you to UNDERSTAND the material and not just be able to parrot the textbook back.

Comment:

Love his sense of humor, first of all. He can be a little monotone sometimes but he is able to make fun of himself for it. The subject matter can be challenging and he expects a lot but he is also very fair. The people who complain about him are just lazy. One complaint, he's awful at getting papers back on time, but his coolness makes up for it.

One of the few professors who actually has the courage to say "I don't know." Good sense of humor and gives printouts of his powerpoints so you don't break your hands writing notes. Labs are a bit crammed for time though, and usually run over.

HILARIOUS. His sense of humor is priceless, as well as his facial expressions...the lab was the most enjoyable part of my semester. Concepts super applicable and good to know, in terms of the health care. I can speak some of the same lingo my dr uses. He jokes about how he wants you to be the next microbiology god - he's serious. Expects a lot.

Took this course in the summer. Pretty broad subject in five weeks. Profs energy was erratic, some days very monotone. But has a good sense of humor and tests were fairly easy. Tried hard to make 5 hour days varied. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I liked his teaching alright.

he is brilliant. has high expectations but is super helpful and razor sharp. microbiology will make sense to you and you will love it. it's hard work but worth it. make sure you keep up with your reading and you stay organized with your notes, because his tests require understanding, not just memorizing. nice and SO funny. would def take him again.
