There comes a point when retirement should be pushed upon someone....Jim Riggs is at least five years beyond that point. The most rediculous example of a "teacher" I've ever been exposed to. Possibly second only to Paris Rutherford in this category.

Listen to him. Some of the things he teaches don't surface or become evident until well after you're out of school. He can be a little quirky, but he's a genuine, caring man who only wants the best for you. If he tells you to consider another career, listen to him. He's probably trying to save you years of agony and wasted money.

The finest big band teacher in the U.S. As a twenty-five year pro, I am only beginning to uncover some of the ensemble playing and bandleading skills Riggs taught me way back. Jim Riggs is proof that the great teachers teach way below the surface and benefit you in ways that may not seem evident at the time...

A great teacher if somewhat undiplomatic to his students. He KNOWs how hard it is out there to make a living playing and how hard it is to get in a university to teach...I owe my success to his teachings.

Listen to what he has to say. He knows more about the saxophone than anyone on the planet. Follow his advice and he will make your career. I know this because he made mine.

He is the worst teacher, I've ever been taught. He doesn't want new students to work hard because he tells you to change your future during music lesson. Do not take his lesson ever. Stuff is much better than him to teach you.

Jim Riggs has put more thought into teaching sax than any teacher I know of. Yeah hard to get along with. But listen to him. It grows on you.
