Comment:
Professor Li does care about his students, but sometimes it may not seem like it. He gets upset easily if you don't understand something and does not clearly go through the labs. He grades pretty easier, but make sure you know what you're doing before coming to class. If you don't understand something, he shows you how to do it.

I pretty like his class. To me it was easy; might be a bit hard for average students. As long as you get 95% on the final you automatically get an A. He provides study guide. Wanted to take CHEM 1A with him this fall, but too bad the lab prof is Rezaie. My tip for you is to study the lecture notes and find quizzes on quizlet to practice.

I spent the entire quarter panicking about my grade in this class and trying to learn what HE would put on the test rather than chem. Tests are hard, but he goes over them in depth. Most of the questions were more related to what we did in lab, or were cherry picked from the power points. Lectures are BORING, and hard to follow. Labs are easy.

Comment:
Does not explain concepts well. Gets mad and is condescending when students ask questions. Tests are very hard, but he tells you exactly what's on them, so if you're good at studying on your own and teaching yourself, you can do well. That's the only reason I'd take him again. But I don't recommend him to people who don't already know chemistry.

Uses paper projector slides, skip slides (old school); hard to follow along w/ppt. Flexible w/deadlines, fair w/students. Exam has trick questions. Doesn't respond to emails. Lecture poorly organized w/ 3 test in 3 weeks. Good guy but poor teaching skills, boring lecture, does not explain topic concept well. You need to teach yourself. Passable.

Overall he's a pretty good professor. There are two midterms and one final and he clearly goes over what's going to be on the exams beforehand. Exams are worth 60%, lab is 30% and online hw is 10%, so your lab grade can definitely bring up your exam grade. Lecture is a little boring but he explains concepts pretty clearly.

Dude is smart but does not know how to explain things well. He is condescending to students. Some times students are scared to ask questions. On more that one occasion, our class was lost in lab. He was texting on his phone, not sure what he's doing on his phone all the time. Class exam average is low67-70. No curve.

Don't take Li unless you've mastered Chem1A in advance. Exams are difficult. The course moves @ a pace there's barely time to catch-up & absorb the material even if you take a hiatus on life to study. It can be a discouraging class. Seek a teacher who is patient, clearly explains concepts, and wants students to learn vs weed students out on exam 1.

Dude's great and a pretty solid teacher. May tend to go on tangents often (2-3 times per lecture) but he knows what he's doing for the most part. However he is not that great at explaining things, and the only reason I easily passed his class was because of my chemistry knowledge from high school. Highly recommended if you want an easy A

Very difficult exams which are stressful, but hang in there. If you go to class, pay attention, go to the labs, and do the online homework, you will not only pass but probably get a good grade. You can learn a lot, and his lectures and expectations are clear.

If you haven't taken chem in a while or don't have a lot of background in chem beforehand then I strongly recommend to NOT take him. He makes you feel awkward for asking questions and seems almost annoyed if you don't understand. His lectures come from slide shows and his voice makes me sleepy. He doesn't explain too much what's going on in lab.

He reuses the same exams every quarter. The lectures are pretty boring. Labs are pretty straight forward, there are 3 or 4 lab quizzes. He has an accent so it's hard to understand him at times. If you attend classes every day and put in the effort, he will not fail you.

It is clear to me this man does not enjoy teaching. He purports himself as though the material is beneath him and is indifferent and condescending. For essential concepts involving calculations he will provide ONE example and is bemoaned to elaborate. While I got accustomed to learning on my own, the class experience was worse for it.

One of the best chem professors I've had so far. Very clear and able to explain concepts very simply. I've started to enjoy chem because he made the basics so easy to understand. Definitely go to lectures and take notes. Do the homework, the practice helps with understanding the material. Know what you're doing in lab so that you can leave early :)

Jimmy Li was a great professor. I hate chemistry but he definitely made it easier through his lectures. He tells you what's going to be on the tests so go to class. He also allows 4 cheat sheets; one for each exam. However, he does go through the material extremely fast so keep up. Study, keep up with the mastering chemistry assignments. Good luck!

His lectures are quite boring, but he gives excellent real life analogy to understand chemistry better. His lecture notes are very detailed, and the quizzes and exams revolves around the notes. The assignments on masteringchemistry are a lot, and quite difficult if you do not have a certain basic idea of what has been gone through in class. Easy!
