Go to class because she doesn't use the textbook - waste of $80 or whatever if you decide to buy it. Retired now, so nothing to worry about. She's a little slow, all things considered. Notes are unorganized, but the material was also dray Stat 213 is much better. I suppose she teaches fine, lots of mistakes on Webwork though.

u barely use the textbook in this class its mostly her notes that will get you through quizzes/ etc she is boring but does a decent job teaching the material. her quizzes are pretty tough tho and sometimes test on things she hasnt even taught you and her midterms and the final are ridiculously long i would advise a different prof

Had her for both 213 and 217. Lectures are a bit boring, quizes are pretty easy (as long as you prepare by doing the worksheets). Expect long midterms and finals; I didn't do that good on the 213 midterm since I wasn't expecting such a long test, but managed to pull off an A in both classes after I got used to her tests.

Great prof, really nice person. She teaches well with great clarity. Always willing to help. But, beware. Quizzes vary in difficulty. Webwork is often buggy. Midterm was tough. Final was BRUTAL. In %, I'd guess the class average to be somewhere around 50%, give or take. I can only hope she curves the hell out of it, othwerise I'm out another $500.

Sure...her lectures are super boring. But can anybody make stats interesting to learn? She's a super nice woman. I accidentally went to lab at the wrong hour and she still let me do my quiz with 10 minutes to spare and let me finish it into the next lab. Always helpful and willing to help and provides many many Blackboard resources.

She gives lots of examples and ideas as to what is coming on the quizzes and minitab makes it easy, but the midterm and final are BRUTAL. To long, stuff weve never even done in class and really really hard. But, she answers emails right away and is good about questions and help.

she's a very good prof. Very knowledgeable and approachable. Her midterm and quizzes are fair, do the works sheets and you should do alright. Her final was pretty brutal though, but all of the stat 217 finals are that way.

BRUTAL! All I can say is brutal. Quizes were tough, Final was unbelievably long, not to mention difficult. She covered material that no other prof of STAT-213 covered. Personally, I found it easier to read the text, than to follow her notes. Does provide lots of practise sheets, though.

very nice person but not the greatest teacher. heading into the final exam i have no idea where i stand in the class as we havn't received marks back on anything. tests are much harder than material she teaches in class, doesn't do enough examples.

Assigns work (tests/quizzes) on material she hasn't taught. Her lectures are crap and the textbook is useless. When in doubt, Google the topic of the day and learn that way. Much easier.

Let me start off by saying that Joan Stellmach is one of the hottest teachers at the U of C. On top of that she is a great teacher. She is very helpfull and friendly but can get a tad boring at times. Her tests are tough but she teaches the material very well. Remember HOTTIE!!!

Great prof. Knows her information well and has amazing notes, but can be a bore. She is really nice and is willing to help in any way she can. Hard exams (esp. the final) and takes FOREVER to return and mark exams. If you want to do well in this class, work hard and do the worksheets!

She is a great prof. She knows the material really well and she explains it well too. She's also nice and extremely helpful. Not a bad combination. Her marking is very fair, she'll try to give as many marks as she can. Her final was brutal though.. but every 217 prof will have a hard final.

I had for for both stat 217/213.She is the nicest prof ever, knows what her stuff well. very organized,very fair,reply emails very quickly,i can feel the passion of teaching from her.class notes are really clear and helpful. one of the best prof that I ever had in university.
