She's not awful. I wish she covered the texts more than historical background... a lot of the lectures were heavy history lessons.... which I didn't enjoy. But otherwise she is engaging and makes great jokes! LOL

Jo is a sweetheart, and pretty funny. You definitely need to go to class (which I had a tough time doing), even though attendance isn't mandatory. Her lectures can be a bit tedious, but if you don't go, your marks will suffer. Got 80s in my other English classes, only 70 in hers. Go to office hours, specifically when creating a thesis for an essay.

Jo is an absolute sweetheart - I've taken three courses with her during my undergrad and have enjoyed each of them equally. She is helpful and hilarious, very understanding and accommodating - she often grants extensions where necessary and tries to help the best she can. Working with Jo is the number one reason I'm confident as a student actor.

Honestly, she's an easy marker but her lectures put me to sleep. She does, however, take ridiculous 5% off your essay mark if you don't cite properly. She also over analyzes trivial aspects of the plays and she isn't very convincing in her interpretations either. Take Claudia Clausius's Modern Drama class at King's, if you want a brilliant prof.

I loved Jo. You have to sit in the front row and hear the things she mumbles to herself, it would make you die of laughter. She is enthusiastic, fun, and your work does not feel like work, it feels like acting. I have never had so much fun in a class before. Reminds me of Meryl Streep in mamma mia.

Incredible professor. She's funny and you can tell that she loves the material. She made first year English an exciting motivating class. Don't hesitate to ask her for help after class, she loves her students. Make sure you participate, she remembers student's names very well and it'll help you make a good impression. Highly recommended.

Dr. Devereux is THE MOST AMAZING PERSON EVER. She really made me love Shakespeare, and her class was just fun to go to. Her lectures are funny, informative and easy to follow. She's one of those people you just geniunely like, and wish was a part of your actual family. Take her courses, particularly the drama-based ones.

Jo is a fantastic teacher as a far as personality and enthusiasm are concerned. Shakespeare was made much more enjoyable because of her supportive nature. She's an easy marker on papers and if you go to lecture you should be able to find something to regurgitate for an 80. Her lectures lack cohesive structure though and make it hard to focus.

AMAZING prof. She is very nice and very caring about her students. This class was particularly easy in my opinion. She does in-class journals and goes over everything you need to know in class (does not post anything online) so make sure you attend all classes. Great prof! Recommended.

Jo is just amazing! You'll never meet a sweeter professor. She really cares about the progress of her students and is EXTREMELY helpful when developing your essay thesis/outline. She is usually pretty good with marking on time and she's a REALLY fair marker! She's also really considerate and will adjust deadlines if the reason is good enough.

Jo is a wonderful professor. As a Western grad who has gone on to teach English, I am inspired by Jo's passion for the subject and her ability to relate to students. Anyone who has the opportunity to take a course with Jo is lucky.

One of my favourite profs! Lectures were fun and she gave away a lot of hints for exams in them. Always available to help with essays. Essays were marked fairly and she always gave lots of tips in her marking.

Jo is absolutely wonderful! She is outstandingly accomodating, has a killer sense of humour, and makes students feel like equals not subordinates. Speech 2001 is the most useful and fun course I've taken at university to date. If only all profs were as great as she is!

Prof Devereaux is fantastic! So cute, tries to make everything interesting and does well with dry material. A difficult marker but willing to talk to you to help bring the mark up. Makes 2hrs on the Victorians interesting, would abo****ely take her class again

For a glass with the potential to be infinitely boring, she made the material as interesting as possible. Very friendly and accomadating as well. Lots of small quizzes (easy), and a few papers (also easy). No final. Take this class with her!
