Comment:
Dr. Bain is a fabulous Prof for those who do well writing papers and personal logs (like journals). You must attend class as she gives numerous examples of personal experiences- that are frequently tested on. Bain is a good prof but not very engaging outside of the class room. Makes you feel like you are wasting her time if you approach her.

If you struggle with writing, do NOT take a class with her. She values learning over memorization, loves a student that can relate things learned in class to their own lives and loves essays. She's fair, clear, always available for help (responds to emails within minutes), has hilarious and engaging lectures and loves what she does.

Jody is rude. I went to her office hours for clarification on her EXTREMELY vague and confusing feedback on an essay, and got essentially ridiculed and dismissed. Jody may be a good psychologist but is not a good professor. DO NOT make the same mistake I did and take her class as an elective!

Had Dr Bain at Camosun. The lectures are really interesting, she knows what she is talking about. Grading is not always clear. You learn a lot, but you also have to work for it.

Dr Bain seems like an excellent psychologist, and likely a wonderful seminar leader or supervisor. As a professor, she was inspired but unclear, vague, and expecting students to fully cater to her own opinions. No feedback was given on large (think 20+ page) assignments.

Very ambiguous grading criteria; she is not clear when you ask her. Her academic integrity is poor, I found her slides online, copied word for word. You don't need the textbook; make sure to look up everything online. There aren't any "right" answers; you must formulate good arguments for tests. I was under stimulated in 330 and learned little.

Does not post slides, get ready to write. Long, boring, very general lectures with little useful information. Jody is quite likeable herself, but I have never taken such a boring class, that was so hard to do well in.

I love Jody! She is so knowledgeable and has so much relevant experience in the field. Yes, there are alot of papers. Yes, she does not post notes so you have to make sure to attend class- but I love her teaching and have taken nearly 5 of her psych courses. Great Prof!

She's a fairly easy A if you're decent at writing and regurgitating her lectures. She lacks academic integrity and just copy and pastes her lecture notes off the internet - I'm also convinced she makes stuff up as she goes half the time. She writes super vague and seemingly irrelevant exam questions. After 3 classes with her, I don't recommend.

A very quirky woman, but a great professor. Her classes are completely based on the lecture material. She uses an old fashioned projector, and doesn't post the notes online, so don't miss class! Use a computer or tablet to take notes, she talks quickly which makes it hard to write notes by hand. Tests are completely written and are fairly marked.

Jody is a very knowledgeable professor. Text book is not required, however attending class is imperative as she does not post notes online. Her classes require a lot of writing, as there are essays, journal entries, small group writing activities, and essay format tests. Grading of essays and tests are extremely fair, I recommend Jody to everyone!

She is a pretty easy teacher, funny, and relate able. She does not post lecture notes up so be prepare to write down your notes, I would suggest bringing a laptop since there are a lot of writing.. but tests are pretty easy, really opinion based. Assignments and essays are easy as well, she is a fair and reasonable grader. Would take her again!

I enjoyed Dr. Bain's quirky lecture style and appreciated her experiences working with forensic populations. The exams and papers were strange to figure out, but I soon got the hang of it. Just tell her everything you know on exams (3 topics with five points each) by integrating what you learn from lecture into conceptual statements with examples.

I am a usual A student, and I will be ending her class this semester with a C+ if I'm lucky. She marks ridiculously hard, gives you test review questions and doesn't test on anything she provided, and does not explain things very well. All her tests are cumulative and short-answer. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO DROP

Syllabus is unclear, doesn't post lecture notes or anything to refer to, doesn't seem to use textbook which she refused to place on Reserve for students to read instead of purchasing, is not clear on expectations for assignments/tests and good luck reading her handwriting on returned assignments.

Amazing Prof. Unlike most that require you to just memorize and regurgitate, Jodie requires you to critically think. Exams were entirely long answer, with extremely open-ended questions- which can be both horrifying as well as extremely satisfying as she encourages you to integrate information learned in other classes (such as anth or soc).

Comment:
She is one of those professors either you love her or you hate her. Her grading is very subjective, so learn to use her opinion as sort of fact in her essays and you'll be fine. She loves personal stories and ideas - just don't overuse that. Would definitely recommend at least one class with Jody. She's funny and lets you really think about psych.
