Jody Greene is easily the best prof. I've ever had. Her lectures help you not only become a better literature student, but a better overall person. She is intelligent, caring, and thought-provoking. Do yourself a favor and take Lit 101 with her. Be ready to work hard, read a ton, and write every week. But, it's well worth the time and energy.

This class is beyond fantastic. Jody prepares each lecture like a presidential speech, and she is genuinely invested in your academic achievement. Be prepared to read and write carefully, spend lots of time taking notes, proofreading, and bringing a great deal of care to your work. Lit 101 is not an easy A, but it is a rewarding one.

Jody Greene is an incredible lecturer! You can tell she genuinely cares about teaching her students and all of the works she chooses to read are interesting and relevant. At first I thought I wouldn't do well in the class because it seemed like a heavy workload and hard grading, but she adjusted the reading so we weren't overwhelmed. Best class yet

To be honest, I was a bit intimidated by her at first. After having spent 10 weeks with her, though I think I've discovered one of my favorite professors. She's incredibly brilliant, engaging, and frequently hilarious. She made an 8 AM lit theory class bearable, even enjoyable, and that's saying a LOT. I can't recommend her or this course enough.

Jody is funny and intelligent, and EASILY the BEST teacher Ive EVER had at UCSC. Take this class, you do not want to miss out. The greatest thing about Lit 101 was that I learned a lot, from how I (and others) feel about authorship, cultural appropriation, etc. My mind has thoroughly been expanded, and my thoughts on topics have been changed.

Jody is a good professor with an obvious passion for-and excellent grasp of- literature. She is reasonable, articulate and constructs her readings in such a way that they link together thematically and truly resonate. I would have enjoyed this class just a bit more if she wasn't so politically one-sided and snarky.

Jody is a brilliant person with interesting lectures - the only thing that turned me off at times was a bit of an elitist attitude, but she cares a lot about students and is very clear on her expectations. This class, Contemplative Reading, isn't terribly work intensive, the readings are decent, and there's no midterm/essays/written final. Solid.

Jody's incredible, I took her Contemplative Reading class and found myself completely engrossed in everything she was talking about. She goes beyond just the academics of teaching and really tries to reach out to students and show them the importance of literature in life and how to practice meditation daily. I highly recommend the class.

So you're a Lit major at UCSC? Great. Take all the Jody classes, and all the Godzich classes. I'd already taken 101 with a different professor, but I needed the elective so I took it again with her. No comparison. It was an incredible class, as are her others. I suggest you do the readings. This is a person you want to learn from.

Jody chooses interesting readings, but even if you don't actually read, you're fine--most of her lectures are about the reading assigned during the last class, with her own ideas and some other thinkers/critics as well. She loves to show videos/music in class and is open to playing things you think are relevant if you email her. Wonderful professor

Professor Greene clearly has a passion for she does, but she does have her favorites. I did all the reading, went to Group Office Hours, went to my TA weekly, tried to think the way she wanted me to, but was still mocked publicly in class for questions she thought were too basic. Yes, she is a great teacher, but don't let her tear you apart.

Probably the best professor I've had in college so far. She's smart, funny, sophisticated, and really cares about what she's talking about. Make sure you know your material if you have questions though. If she can tell that you haven't actually read the material, she'll eat you alive. I got a B, but I would take a class with her again any day.

I have never been more excited about a class. Even though I did not like a couple of the novels we read, she still got me excited about talking about them and discovering various nuances in each text. Rad tattoos and a nice way of talking.

Jody did not disappoint. I have found that the classes offered in the lit dept. here are often sagging under the weight of theory and fail to excite my interest. Jody focuses on the actual novel, using theory when it is helpful, and also gives historical background which makes reading so much more interesting/relevant!

She's a great lecturer and she very knowledgeable individual. The only down fall of this class is that it's an 8 am. Aside from that, the course work is fair: we had a paper due each week and 20 pages of reading per night on average. Super reasonable and also super approachable. Highly recommend her!
