Joe Chase is most likely one of the best professors I have had in my college experience so far. His knowledge of java and programming in general is astounding. His class is tough, but if you put the time and effort into it, you will earn a sufficient grade.

Comment:

Joe is a tough grader at least towards me. I know he didn't like me; he made that very clear. All projects are difficult. Took off points because mine were "simple" but they were actually very hard and took so much time to do. Almost feels like lab and lecture are two completely different classes. I hate that he's the only teacher for this class.

Comment:

Story time: Joe is a Legend basically. He makes most lecture relatable with analogies like Dr. Pittges. Hes very accessible during the labs and office hours and wants you to truly learn rather than simply pass the class. He also takes brief breaks fun the lecture to tell funny stories that usually relate to the lecture. Good guy, take him!

Joe is one of the best professors I have had at the University. As long as you show up to class and complete all of the work you will be fine. I've found it also helps to participate in class as he will get to know you. He was very helpful during office hours. My one big criticism is that the material learned in class is seldom used on projects.

Joe is an incredible professor who truly cares about the ITEC students at Radford University. He is tough when it comes to the material but this is the "make-or-break" class. He wants you to know your stuff when you move on from 220. I had to retake this class but I was very thankful I did. I learned a lot and am glad I had Joe to help me along.

Dr. Chase is an amazing teacher. Do not entertain students on here leaving 1 star reviews. He wrote the textbook for the class! He knows everything there is to know about the class. Always answers questions in lecture, in detail. All exams have study guides that are VERY similar to the exams. The class is basically just 5 projects and 3 exams.

Dr. Chase prefers to be called Joe, which takes some getting used to. If you made it through ITEC 220, 324 will be a breeze. He challenges you to think about problems critically, logically, and elegantly. His lectures are more like group discussions, and if you don't get it, he'll keep at the topic until you do.

When you stress the book is mandatory for part of your grade, it helps for the book to be helpful for that part of your grade. When a third of the class don't know when things are due, it might not be the students. Even if it is, then complaining about your students in class is not helpful. Emotional unilateral nuclear genocidal ethics rants here.

The class is set up to weed out people. A lot of work, but if your serious about a future in ITEC you will learn a lot from him. The textbook is only used for online quizzes that you take once a week that are more or less straight out of the book. Big projects at the end that I found more fun than tedious.

His class can be hard sometimes but if you actually put the effort and work into it, you'll pass without any problems. He's really helpful when you meet him during his office hours. I have a friend who is currently retaking the class for the 3rd time, why you may ask? Because he/she didn't put in the effort. Don't be like this person.

Joe is a great professor, but he will not allow anyone to get by without knowing the material which is of course extremely hard. Couldn't imagine any other professor do a better job. Definitely requires about 8-12 hours a week to keep up with class.

Chase knows what he is doing when it comes to java. He struggles with explaining it to students. His class is meant to filter students to different majors. I didn't receive much help from him when it came to questions. I spent countless hours in the lap for his projects. He claims that he gave a curve to his past classes... we received no curve.

Hands down the Laziest teacher i have ever had. Dude throws around random grades. Good at explaining things and very helpful Just expect you to have NO IDEA what grade you will get on an assigment. Shit programs that do absolutley nothing get you a 60 while perfect programs get you a 80 makes no sense.

Dr. Chase is one of the most knowledgeable teachers I've had. The material is hard and lots of people drop then rage out on this site. If you want an A in this class come to every lab (find a smart partner) Take the time to read the book especially during his online portion of the exams its free points. He hints at exam questions in his lectures!!!
