Dr. Shing is great guy, he helped me through a difficult time and his classes weren't making much sense to me. He would sit with me every office hours and we would work out what the lectures were about. Hes not the best orator, but he's one of the few professors who care that your learning the material. Good guy, take him.

Dr. Shing could barely explain any of the concepts in this class. He rambles often and is difficult to understand. If by some miracle you can understand him, he is still very difficult to follow for an extended period. The course material itself is not very difficult - it is just difficult to understand with him teaching it. I learned nothing.

Wonderful person, absolutely horrible professor. Barely speaks English, has incredibly unclear homework and project requirements that are changed constantly, often with unrealistic requirements, and tests and PowerPoint notes are near-incomprehensible. By far the worst professor I have had at Radford.

This guy is terrible. Can't understand a word he says, and he talks in a monotone voice that lulls you into the best slumber of your life. Quizzes every single day, often covering several different topics. Not good at answering questions because he cant discern what a student is having difficulty with. Would never, ever, EVER take his class again.

Everyone covers him, he's little help, hard to understand, and very difficult tests/quizzes. The biggest thing is that his tests/quizzes are all online and you are NOT allowed to see the questions/answers to them to help studying for exams. With no textbook it made studying hard. Nice guy would never in a million years take him again.

All the quizzes & tests are online and he gives you NO access at all to them to study for the tests/exams. There is no book, so this really limits studying. He is really hard to understand his accent is STRONG. He is very limited help in his office. He also gives quizzes almost every class that are pretty hard.

Terrible, I mean terrible instructor. He is not clear at all when speaking and moves fast. He is of NO help when you ask him a question. He simply cannot answer questions. Gives quizzes no one is prepared for. You pretty much have to teach yourself which can be tough for Database.

Extremely easy class, online quizzes has 5 attempts and shows you what you got right each time. Pop quizzes, which I like to call "Daily" quizzes because he likes giving them out everyday, can be Google'd. All of his exams are previous online quiz questions, so you can save the old quizzes along with the answers for each of them and get perfect 100

Literally the easiest class i have ever taken in my life. Attendance is mandatory, but he grades attendance like quizzes. i have 5 zeros for attendance and still have a 97 avg. HW can be long, but it is so so easy. he doesnt speak clearly in class but offers powerpoints. If you are just looking to take this as a GenEd, do it. Easy A for sure.

Many people trash talk Dr. Shing, but I personally respect the man because he taught me a great deal in my C & Unix class. I admit, he is terrible at in class lectures, but if you follow his class examples or you ask him to explain something one-on-one, you'll find that he's very knowledgeable. You just have to make him communicate that knowledge!

Mr. Shing is one of the funniest, sweetest professors at Radford, the only major issues are the class itself along with the material you have to learn, and the language barrier. He is really helpful, but he has a hard time being understood sometimes. Do the quizzes in lecture too!

Very simple class. Tests come directly from the study guides. I probably did learn more than I realized but it didn't seem like it because of the delivery. His english is at times incomprehensible but he realizes it so he'll clarify if needed.

Gives away all the answers to all tests in "study guides," which are just lists of the questions and what bubble to fill in. Does not manage unruly students. Frequently mangles English to a point that is actively damaging to your sanity. Learned NOTHING. Avoid like the plague.

Difficult to understand him sometimes. The material is rather hard also. If you memorize the study guide you will get a 100 on every test though. 3 tests and a final he drops lowest test. homework almost every class but he doesn't grade it if you write anything on your paper he'll give you a 100.

You know, before i took this class i looked Shing up on this page and was terrified of taking the course...it was the easiest class i ever took. Yea, he can be hard to understand and he has difficulty explaining some things because of the language barrier but if you do the reading and tutorials like you're supposed to its easy. Just pay attention.
