He was the professor the Physics department deserved, but not the one it needed right now. He will be missed.

Joe Collins has been by far the WORST professor I have ever had. Expects you to come to class knowing the book inside and out. Ask him questions and he wont answer them at all. Expects way too much for a introductory physics class.

Joe Collins is one of the rudest people you will meet. However, the class is really not that challenging. You never really know what is going on, but if you get old tests and study from those, you can do well in the class. Each test has some curveball on it that you won't find from old tests but otherwise, they are basically the same questions.

Let me make this simple - Collins is THE. WORST. TEACHER. I have EVER had in my ENTIRE life. Doesn't teach. Has students in class do his job for him. Wastes half the class with awkward pauses. Doesn't care about you getting it. Will ONLY accept his one right answer on tests. Quizzes are so frustrating, same problem. DEFINITELY AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Definitely my least favorite professor of my 3 years in college. He is the type of guy to ask a rhetorical question and expect a legitimate answer, and will stand in silence until someone answers his questions EXACTLY the right way. He wastes time. Dr. Collins is the worst kind of professor, he will make you feel stupid for asking questions.

By far my least favorite professor I have had at Marquette. Expects everyone to be a master of the material before coming to class and remains purposely vague in lecture. Seems to enjoy it when students are clearly confused. Would never ever take again

Expects you to read all assigned readings before the class they were assigned for. He will then expand the material in lecture, letting the class guide him. If the class cannot provide the EXACT answer he is seeking, he will stand in silence until you give him the correct one. Makes for awkward lectures, but I loved it. Definitely not for everyone.

Collins is quite difficult to get help from. He tends to make you feel as if you are stupid most of the time, and he remains silent in lecture until someone answers his ridiculously exact questions. Quizzes get pretty difficult but are good practice. Exams are not that hard, but multiple choice can be tricky. Get old examsquizzes to study!!

Very good guy, good heart, and has a passion for what he does. Nothing wrong with taking him. Dr. Collins is very nice to his students, likes participation, and always has a smile. I personally liked him a lot.

Classes are ALWAYS awkward. He also asks for student participation, which isn't bad in itself, but the questions he asks just aren't worth answering. "What is in New Mexico?" How should I know what one thing you picked in New Mexico? "What shape is the Earth?" And spherical won't suffice. Bad, avoid at all costs.

To get a B it is 75% and above so this class is not very hard especially since 30% of the grade is once a week homework that takes an hour.

HORRIBLE. Marquette should be embarrassed to employ this man. He is condescending towards students. No one is ever correct in his eyes. HE IS THE MAN! he knows it all. Joe rushes through powerpoints, making it impossible to write them down and he does not post them online. his lecture are boring. STAY AWAY STUDENTS! Marquette you need to reevaluate

Quizzes in the beginning are very simple but become very difficult. A common trend for all is multiple choice is that there can be one answer, several answers or no answers which makes it very difficult. You will also become tired of hearing 'Please come up with a defensible solution'. He isn't very straightforward or helpful.

Joe Collins is easily the worst teacher I have ever had. However, despite his terrible attitude and 'required attendance' I didn't go for the last 4 weeks straight and got a B. Also, the midterm is literally the first half of the final and he lets you keep the test so.... Just ignore him in class and do the homework, and dont buy the book.

Joe Collins could easily win the award for worst professor at marquette. He's not helpful at all in or out of class and he is unbelievably condescending. No one in my class talks anymore because he humiliates people who don't provide the exact answer he is looking for and then gets mad when no one speaks. I wouldn't recommend taking him at all.

Interesting professor. Teaches via way of student participation. Resented him at first, but grew to tolerate him. Exams directly reflect lecture. Wish he would do away with all the highbrow religious banter.

Contrary to what people may think about him, I liked him as a professor. He is extremely consistent and his tests are only 25 pts. No cumulative final which is nice. Being meticulous is a must to get full credits, he is detailed oriented. Strange humor, but that's refreshing. He's a good teacher with a different personality. that's all.

The people complaining about him are also the same people who take him too seriously. He is incredibly consistent, and at times his quirkiness borders on the strange, but he is a VERY GOOD professor. You will learn the material if you pay attention. Additionally, he is highly entertaining if you learn to appreciate his mannerisms/being. Take him.
