Comment:

Joe is a great teacher. He knows what he's doing, has a great understanding of how to teach, and goes through a lot of examples in class. He also does a great job of gauging how much teaching he needs to do. If the scheduled material for a class is light, he won't waste your time going through it slowly and will let the class out early. Recommended

Comment:

Knowledgeable professor, but doesn't take time to get you prepared for the exams. He will literally find already made homework that doesn't prepare you for the exam to do and doesn't make exam prep till the last minute. Very nice guy and understanding, but makes it seem like he isn't teaching all that we need to know.

Everyday in class he teaches off the board so you must attend class. Great professors and makes sure you know exactly what youre doing. Makes accounting SUPER easy. 3 exams and youre told what will be on it plus a study guide and practice test. Short homework assignments and quiz due every couple sundays. AMAZING PROFESSOR, KNOWS HIS STUFF

A++++ instructor. Great lectures. Relaxed classroom environment. Super knowledgeable. He does plenty of example questions and really helps you prepare for the exams.

He may be a great teacher for in-person instruction but he's awful online. The equivalent of a week of lectures for the online students is a 20 minute video glossing over some content and instruction to read the chapter of the book. He doesn't interact with the class very much and responds to online questions and emails weeks after they are posted.

Dr. Gerard is a great Accounting professor, and I would recommend him to anyone. He is very knowledgeable, and it shows in his lectures as he is able to explain concepts quite simply. I really enjoyed his class, as he is even-keeled and even makes subtle jokes at times. Accounting is no cake walk, but Gerard can help you through it if you show up.

Comment:

One of the better accounting professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking. Like other people have said, accounting is difficult, but taking the right teacher makes it a far better experience. Will he just had out A's for no effort? No. But he will make it a lot easier to succeed in class, and was a very fun guy to have class with.

Graded on very few things, so if you don't do well on one of the tests, it can really impact your grade. Although he stated tests were noncumulative - they did include previous material. Exams you couldn't see what questions you missed, so were unable to know what to focus on for the next one. Even when I asked he wouldn't share. Would avoid.

Joe Gerard is probably the best professor to take for accounting, especially for an online course. He gives great feedback and is always available via email or D2L for any questions. Accounting is a difficult course but Professor Gerard makes it a little better.

Joe is accessible via email quickly. I took this class online and it was fairly easy. The exams were online and homework. There was only 4 discussion posts and you just had to reply to two students.

By far one of the best teachers I've had. He's really good at going over everything at a good pace and everything makes a lot of sense when he teaches! Tests are a little tough but if you study a lot you'll be fine.

Gerard is the director of accounting 249, so he knows exactly how to prepare his classes for the exams. Gerard had tons of business experience which he relates to the class to make things interesting. I would recommend him.

Joe is a great teacher. Class mainly consists of examples and problems that he goes over. It is really helpful, I like it better than just taking notes off of a slideshow because it is more interactive. Gerard is also the one that writes the tests for 249 and I think it really helps. I'd totally recommend him!!

Comment:

Joe is great. He speaks loudly and clearly enough that everyone in class can hear, and he makes it easy to take quality notes. Notes are essential to passing, and if you don't do homework, you will fail. But if you do the homework every time it's assigned, you will crush the exams.

Listen, Accounting is a hard class no matter who you take it with. But Joe is the head of the department and really knows his stuff. Great teacher, would recommend taking him if you can.

He is a fantastic professor! For the exams he tells you exactly what is going to be on it and gives you practice problems, that usually are harder than the exams, along with the practice exam and a study guide that he posts on D2L. The lectures are very helpful to studying for the exams and doing the weekly homework assignments and quizzes.

Professor Gerard writes the exams for all 249 classes. He doesn't bother with the book unless he's giving you problems from it. Class is 95% him going over problems and the other 5% is corny yet somewhat hilarious jokes. Show up to class and you'll guarantee yourself a B at bare minimum

His lectures are very boring and even though he does give real world examples they don't help at all. He also writes the tests so if he tells you something is on the test write it down. Don't take him just because he writes the tests though. He isn't a good teacher but he does his best and he's nice.
