If you are SERIOUSLY into philosophy take this course, but if you're just taking this course to cover an MLO, I highly suggest you take it w someone else. He is a super tough grader. Also, he assigns too many group projects and individuality is not an option... regret taking his course... messed up my 4.0 gpa :

The greatest class I have ever taken. He was so clear on each assignment, graded quickly, was passionate, engaged students, offered help at any time, provided any text we needed. Assigned projects that really helped us develop as scholars. Wish I could take it again! Be sure to go to class and do the work and you will be fine and a better person

Seriously, take this class from Joe!! He genuinely cares about making students think, he's super tolerant and respectful of all the different world views presented in his class, he facilitates really interesting class discussions, and he has a great dry humor. The work load is really fair and you'll have fun. :)

I did not like this class because of close minded students. In addition, the group work was a retarded asset to the classroom. Individual success is not an option in the classroom. Hence, his collaboration techniques are stupid. In addition, I hated the lousy conservatives in our class. This class made me hate republicans more then ever!!!!!

Joe Larkin's class would have been so much better if he limited the amount of group work he assigned. If you are a person that works best individually,this class may slightly frustrate you at times.However if you are a person that works best in a group,then this is class is perfect for you.I got a B instead of an A.To this day, it still bothers me.

Joe Larkin can be one of the greatest professors here at CSUMB, but there are those days where he is just an average JOE.I would not mind having a beer with the guy, but I really do not like his style of teaching. Too much group work, and not enough opportunity to excel individually. If he limited the group work, he would be 100 times better.

Joe Larken starts off extremely easy, then once you do your group projects he gets harder. Needless to say,you can pass this class with flying colors,but keep in mind that getting an A in his class will depend on how much he likes your group.I almost got an A but did not because on all my group stuff I got B's.Needless to say,I hate group projects.

Joe is a nice man and knows his politics.He was a little unfair when it came to my grade even though I got a B+.I came to his class everyday,participated frequently,and did pretty well on all of his assignments.I thought I deserved atleast an A.He's a nice guy,but does not understand learning disabilities. That was the only dumb ass thing about him
