Comment:

EN1242 was a very easy and interesting course and I really enjoyed it. 2242, however, involved reading about 200 pages per week, and you can't skip a class because there are two quizzes every class on the reading from the previous class. Prof. Brattin is a fair grader and a very nice man overall, as long as you don't mind reading.

Comment:

Professor Brattin was great. The class involves a lot of reading, as you might expect from a literature course. The reading consumes a lot of time, and if you don't read everything in the book's assignment you are likely to miss a question on the 5 question quizzes he gives every hour of the 2 hour class. The papers were not difficult.

I saw his RateMyProfessors page before taking this class and thought it was exaggeration- I was wrong. Very smart, but scripts his lectures and reads from a paper during class (2hrs). Assigns a ton of reading and essays on the same reading due on the same day, which would be fine, but he only gives us 3 days to do both. I did a lot of skimming...

He scripts each class. Brings in a little collapsible lectern and reads off of his script. Rarely, if ever, strays from it. I was not impressed.

The novels had potential for great discussions, particularly about social themes. But classes were 2hr lectures, which consisted of him relating the things that happened in each reading ( 100pg), with no depth, just the facts. I was disappointed and very bored. Don't recommend to anyone looking for in class analysis or conversation. Wrote 3 essays

Very unreasonable with his assignments, +70 pages a night for reading, for at least one book. Summarizes the chapters without any in-depth discussion, then assigns an in-depth essay. He didn't seem to play favorites, but he is VERY self absorbed. Just stay away from this guy.
