He is seriously the sweetest man! Went to his office to ask him a question about a paper and he was super nice! There are 2 papers and a few quizzes. Class is super boring but I would take his class again. EASY A!

lectures that should take 30 minutes are drawn out for an hour because he can't get a sentence out in under a minute. Tests are extremely hard even though he gives you a study guide. He constantly falls behind and pushes back due dates.

While he seemed passionate about what he taught, Dr. Chaston gave us no life application. We hardly did anything in class, it was boring, and I left feeling like it was a waste of time and money. He taught things that everyone in college should already know and treated us like we were in middle school. I learned nothing from him or that class.

Dr. Chaston was a great professor, except for the fact that his lectures tend to be pretty boring. If you take him, make sure you do the readings so you have something to contribute in class. He likes class discussion, but he is not the best at facilitating it, so if you have a thought don't be afraid to jump in. It makes class more interesting!

Comment:
All in all, Chaston is a good prof. However, his lectures get pretty boring. ENG338 has a decent amount of reading, but all of it is YA Fiction books (so, easy reads). I would recommend readings the books fully before his "first half" day because, spoilers. Great course for future early & English secondary educators.

Dr. Chaston is a good professor. He is very knowledgeable and cares about his students. However, his lectures tend to be a bit rambling. Sometimes he says way more than is needed on a subject. But, he knows what he is talking about and I learned new ways to look at young adult literature. Five books, two papers, two tests. Easy grader.

He really cares about his students and he tries, but he is SO boring. He took a subject I was really interested in and made it monotonous and painfully sluggish. He assigns a lot of reading and has pretty decent taste in books, but you'd better read the entire thing by the time he wants to talk about the first half. Spoilers everywhere. "You know?"

You can tell he has a passion for children's literature, especially The Wizard of OZ. He is a great guy and cares about his students. Chaston loves class participation and will randomly pick on you if no one will answer the question. I read most of the books but did online summaries too. Lectures are boring if you don't engage/participate.

Dr. Chaston is a good guy, and likes teaching. His lectures are incredibly boring, and not engaging in the slightest. His class is pretty easy though, I've been able to do well without reading actually reading the books, just reading chapter summaries online. Tests can be tough if you don't study, but as long as you try you should do fine.

He is a great guy. He loves his students and has great passion for reading. The only complaint I had was how incredibly boring the lectures were. Its hard to make talking about children books fun. But definitely read all of the books assigned. The test has objective questions from the books and you must right 2 essays.

Mr. Chaston is a nice guy. But his monotone lectures make it difficult to stay awake in class. The books he chose for the semester were classics such as The Wizard of Oz, but he only gave students a week at the most to read them, which just isn't enough time for some of the bigger books. Not much homework, only two tests, and a few pop quizzes.

Chaston was easy but no fun fest; he sounds like Kaa from Jungle Book so class can be boring sometimes. He knows lit inside and out and tries to get students interested as well. Easy A attendance is taken every day, one paper, midterm, take-home final

Dr. Chaston has made this class really easy. No one should come out with anything less than an A! He isn't the most exciting professor, he likes to do group book talks, and circling up in the class. Honestly there isn't any content to the class other than the 5-6 books he assigns. Very easy A!

This class was awful. The books we had to read were all books you've read before when you were in 4th grade and the book discussions made me feel like I was back in 4th grade. "Describe the characters in Charlotte's Web". Seriously? This is college. I was really looking forward to this class but he really ruined it. Everyone was asleep or late.

VERY nice instructor and very understanding if you have to miss class. Class can be boring sometimes, but I really liked the open class discussions. A lot of reading, but nothing extreme. Grades VERY fair. I got an 97% overall grade. I would recommend him to anyone! If you can't pass this class then you don't belong in school!

I fell asleep multiple times in this class as did many others in the class. It is a very easy class, but there are surprise reading quizzes. He does ensure that you read the books for class. I skipped class at least once a week, if not more, and I was fine, as long as you take the tests.

He is super easy. Attendance is important only when it comes to pop quizes but he drops at least 2 of your lowest scores. There are quite a few books to read but you could get by on spark notes and only a few are lengthy;however, I hate reading and the books he chooses are good! You write 2(3pg)papers, have 2 tests, and he is a really easy grader!
