Dr. Atherton knows his material inside out and is very enthusiastic, if somewhat old-fashioned. He was helpful and willing to listen when I came to him outside of class. Your best resource for a good grade in this course is the old exams and problem sets that he supplies.

I can't say I enjoyed his classes, he refused to give examples, and learning from the problem sets is impossible. If you want to do well, pay attention to problems he points out in class, they'll be on the test. Also, do old exams, and you'll do fine.

Comment:
The course is not difficult if a fair amount of at home study is applied. Who cares if he doesn't give examples, he gives problem sets and assigns questions right from the book, then rips these questions off for the tests - doesn't get much easier. If you do poorly in this course don't do science.

He is a fantastic proff. Although it is a hard course he is very interested in the students success and tries to help you out. His notes are good and gives fair but difficult tests. I recomend that you do not get in the front row however because it gets dizzying as he gets more excited.

Chem 2300 was one of the worst experiences of my life. The course was very hard, but he adds a lot of extra pressure but making the tests impossible. If you have to do this course, TRY to get someone else, but if you are a sucker for punishment, DO problem sets and learn theory. Good luck..........

Great Prof, he doesn't do a lot of examples though, but do all of the old exams which are given and you will get an A(well hopefully).

Well. He knows his stuff for sure. But he expects you to know it just as well. Tries really hard but is somewhat disorganized. Know his problem sets and the textbook questions, the test questions are copied directly from them.

Saved me from impending dome. Went from a low B in 1050 to an A in 1051. Survived my degree and I almost switch to chemistry. Classes might not always be the clearest but he will help you if you really need it. Not all professors will be like that. Helped me once even when I wasn't in his class

Not a good prof.. He seems to know the material, but he is not good at conveying it to others. He expects you to know how to do complex calculations even though he gives you absolutely NO examples in class.. Completely theoretical. Don't take this course with him.

This prof is so scatterbrained it's unreal. It's so easy to get confused with 5 different colors of chaulk on the board. Don't do this class unless you need to.

A really hard course, I am generally an A student and I got a 36 on the 1st test!!! A good teacher but only teaches theory and gives no examples. Be prepared to do A LOT of work on your own!! Don't do this course unless you have too!!

...Run...run while you can. Unless you are born with a chem set then the chem department offers no hope of doing well/passing chem 1011. He's boring, ignorant of students needs and cant write. VERY unorganized. Pray you get Joe Antle, at least you'll pass
