Professor Donoghue was a great teacher. He was really lucid, answered any and all questions in class, did cool demos, and he was wicked funny. I definitely recommend his class.

The absolutely most helpful thing for his class is to print out the slides for his class beforehand. He takes notes about the slides so it's MUCH easier to follow along and absorb information. He is a very nice guy and will answer any and all questions. Although he seemed a bit nervous and jittery, he was still a good professor. I'd recommend him.

Very kind professor! He drops your lowest test grade (4 out of 5 count) and the final is not cumulative. PRS: 80% count for 100%. It is an amnesty, to allow you for sick days and days you forgot the clicker. So you only have to go to class 80% of the time.

The class was tough but if you keep up on your work you can do just fine. You get to drop grades and 40% of the points are based on just going to class and doing the homework. My number one recommendation is to meet with him if you're having trouble. He was always very happy to help as best he could.

He's a great guy, and a devoted teacher, but it's hard to understand him if you sit in the back of the room. He tends to mumble a lot. However, he's very helpful in office hours, and he's fair. Usually he does at least one demo per class so you don't have to listen to a lecture the whole time. Some of them are really cool.

Comment:
Donoghue was a poor teacher. His mumbling and lack of creativity toward delivering the material created an air of unclarity that made the course harder than it had to be. However, he does get points for knowing his stuff. He also seems very sincere and wants to help, just a bit timid.

He is among the most elite physicists in the world. A very nice and decent man. Unfortunately, it is a waste of resources to let him teach undergrad courses. It is like asking Einstein to teach high school kids who dont know math.

I had him his first time teaching a large class... seemed very nervous but got better by the end of the semester. nice guy, tried his best. gladly answered any questions I had. dropped lowest test (of 4) and 40% of grade was homework and going to class.

No other way to put it... He was just really bad. The way he presented material in class was confusing to begin with, nevermind the fact that when you listened to him you got wicked confused because he bumbled so much, unable to complete a full sentence.

He is one of the worst professors I have had at UMASS. His presentation of the material is very bad and very unclear. He rushed through the material and doesnt explain the problems. The exams are no where near the level of the course work taught in class.

He seems like a nice guy, and he's trying real hard, but presentation is terrible and he seems very nervous. You might learn maybe 15% of what you need in class, you're on your own for the rest. Many people can't stay awake in class. Clarity is poor.
