Best prof I have had at UVic. Definitely a class to look forward to. A very quotable and funny man, someone I strive to be like one day.

A reliable instructorfair marking, interesting lectures, and provides help to students. On the whole, I'd say Dr. Duder is great prof. One quibble is that a few of his lectures are fairly old and somewhat "memorized," but others are very interesting. For 372 he used a 25X4 marking scheme, which seemed to underweight the 3,000 word essay.

Professor Duder is the most entertaining prof I've had so far; he extensively knows African history. He's quite sarcastic and witty, and if you get this sense of humor you'll love it. If not, you might get offended. He means well, and is very approachable during office hours. Just make sure to study hard and give a bunch of facts for tests.

I have taken ALL of the classes that he offers. Best history lecturer at uvic for sure. Lectures are always entertaining and he always ends on time/early. texts not needed ever. grade = 50% essay 50% final. for the final you can choose 2/8ish essay questions to answer. I would take ANY class he taught

"Morning little flock" is how he greets the class, and brings a smile to everyone each time. He is amazing, really clear and cynical, and really illuminates the complex relationships within South Africa. One essay. One test. That's it. What a breath of fresh air!

Duder is my favorite uvic prof. I've taken all of his offered courses. His lectures are like listening to a riveting story and all key terms and dates he writes on the chalk board. All you have to do is attend class, write a straightforward 12 page paper on a person/event and a final exam (which offers several essay options). Texts not necessary.

His lectures are very interesting, but they are all oral. He does not supply notes, so attendance in mandatory. This course requires a lot of work - lots of reading (2 novels and a text), a large paper and an essay style final. He has a dark sense of humor, but it can be really funny and refreshing. Be prepared to work hard, but very interesting.

Probably the most entertaining prof in the history department. It's true that the textbooks are not needed, but if you like history read them as they are not dull academic books like what most professors assign, they are written more like novels.

I had Dr. Duder for History of South Africa. Like a previous poster commented, it's "chalk and talk"... Come to class and you have to have an interest in the subject cause you'll be writing three pages of notes per class. Don't buy the textbooks. They are not needed!

He's awesome! His lectures are awesome; they're "chalk and talk" so be very ready to take notes very quickly because he goes through quite a bit of content. His 3,000 word essay was not totally appreciated, but still do able. I would take a class with him in a heart beat, he's totally amazing!

Dr. Duder is one of the best lecturers I've ever had; hilarious, engaging material that he makes funny with a dark sense of humour. You're never bored in his class! However, watch out for his assignments: he doesn't provide much guidance but still expects you to match hs ite spcific idea of what he wants. Overall, awesome prof -- take him for sure!

Agree with other comments- funny, great, interesting lectures. HOWEVER, he does not give detailed expectations for papers and exams. Then gives bad grades if you don't write what he thinks is important. Try asking for clarity but don't expect any reasonable response. He is extremely awkward and unhelpful.

In my opinion Duder is an awesome prof. I kind of expected a higher grade than a 'B' however I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. The subject was very interesting. He's both comical and serious and especially all knowing about his subject "British Africa." Being a French student, it would seem he's a little biased towards "French Africa," but meh!

"Good morning, little flock" is how he begins EVERY lecture EVERY day. One of the funniest professors I have ever had due to his extremely dry, sarcastic sense of humor. History of Africa is the most interesting course I have taken so far, and he makes it even better. I strongly recommend him as a teacher, and I think his **** jokes are funny
