Profesor Gilliom gives some of the best lectures I've ever heard. He takes any subject in the field of polysci and makes it relevant; especially surveillance studies, his specialty. I also took his junior comp 305J which was very good. If Gilliom likes you, and by that I mean you participate meaningfully in discussion, he will cut you slack.

I loved taking this class! Dr. Gilliom conducted it as a bit of a survey of surveillance, if you will. I learned so much about the area and the politics and policy surrounding it. The ideas I learned in that class are truly irreplaceable.

I really enjoyed this class. As long as you go to class and take notes your fine. He spells out what will be on the exams. Some of the readings are hard to understand but he helps explain them. very good class! great professor!!!

a great prof all around, the tesn't as bad as I thought they were going to be. I'm not that interested in political science but still had a great time in this class. My best friend took one of his classes (she's majoring in poli sci) and loved it even more than i did. He was always helpful when I needed clarification on class. participate!

Gilliom is great. He is extremely smart and passionate about political science. His class requires a decent amount of reading but he is more than willing to help. I would love to take another class with him if I have the chance to. Just make sure you participate!!!

I think, at OU, only Harold Winter (Economics) is better at lecturing clearly and concisely. Because Gilliom is such a good lecturer and scholar, it disappointed me that he wanted to hear us talk so much. I wanted to hear his opinions a lot more than some girl who says tort reform is good because her mommy and daddy are doctors. Dude's hilarious.

I agree with one of the previous reviews: nice and easy-going in class, but outside the classroom, would kick your pet kitten if he had the chance. Just be sure to talk in class, as this ends up being a good chunk of your grade.

Let us do things instead of quizzes which is always nice, although you had a broad area to study when it came to exams. He gives you a study guide, and you don't have a comprehensive final, just a quiz. If you study the study guides you're golden.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gilliom's class. I can't believe I have said that Pol Sci was my favorite,but I did! His insight and knowledge of the subject was phenomenal.When you register, I definitely would make sure he's the Professor. He's dynamical with this subject matter,so he keeps the class alive.

John Gilliom is a really good professor. he knows what he is talking about and the class is pretty easy. as long as you study the key terms and the notes the tests are really easy. definitly take him if you have to take this class...i heard the other teachers were really hard.

Pretty balanced in class, with regards to the political parties, although it's quite obvious which way he's leaning. He let us do stuff instead of quizzes which was very nice. Lots of terms to learn for an exam, but if you study hard, you should do okay. There isn't enough discussion in class.

Guess I was expecting too much. Lectures are so-so and tests are fair, seems like a nice, easy-going, pit-stained guy in class...but a real jerk outside. There are much better people in the PoliSci department, but Gilliom will work in a pinch.
