Comment:
Professor Hall tells you exactly what class is going to be like - you're graded off of 4 tests and the average grade of 5 pop quizzes. All multiple choice, tests have EC. He lectures during every class and inserts his opinions a lot. Read the book and go to class because there are often test questions that were in the lectures but not in the book.

Worst teacher I've ever had. He is rude and so extremely set in his own opinions. All he does during class is rant and go on tangents that mean nothing. No extra credit. Not reasonably at all. Gives 4 exams and 5 pop quizzes. Will not let you make them up. Do not take him. He is horrible.

He's crazy in a good way. No, but really. I had him for Criminology and did the best I've ever done in a class. If you read (which is easy because the material is easy), then you WILL get an A. Most of it is common sense stuff-- putting official names to phenomena we already kinda know.

Loved his criminology class. He's insane but hilarious and super nice. Tests and Quizzes are easy if you do the reading and go to most classes. If you read and take the practice exams he posts, you can get an A. He usually hints when there's gonna be quizzes. There's only been one time where it was an actual pop quiz. Would definitely recommend.

Lectures were hard to follow. Studied hard for each test but only got an A on one. He often asks for extremely specific details from his own lectures which are hard to remember.

Don't take him. John Hall is insane. He is rude and condescending. He rants the entire class and gives pop quizzes so you have to show up. Everything is multiple choice so you would think it was easy but its not. Personally insulting and highly inappropriate.

Although John Hall isn't the most sane guy, he's pretty hilarious and his exams are easy as long as you read the textbook. I don't mind going to class because the stuff that comes out of his mouth is pure comedic gold; he's incredibly intelligent as well, just a little "out there."

Things I've learned from John Hall: rap.e and spousal abuse are funny, heroin is safe and a good idea (especially if you mix it with other drugs), people should pretend to be clinically depressed in order to get prescription meds (coupled with a great demonstration of how to do so), mental illness is a joke. Have I learned Sociology? Nope.

Worst teacher I've ever had, and probably the worst person I've met. He is offensive, rude, and so extremely set in his own opinions that he won't listen to reason. Lectures are rants that include more about his sex life and political views than the actual subject material. You won't learn from him, but if you want to lewd jokes take his class

Class is not mandatory but does give the occasional pop quiz which he drops the lowest. Lectures are long and boring even though he's charismatic and says funny things. He will just talk for the full hour and fifteen minutes. I just read the textbook chapters and the tests were easy. The final isn't cumulative so that's nice.

Pretty eccentric, but overall not bad. The quizzes and exams aren't terribly challenging, read the book and you'll be fine. Posts course power points and sample exam questions online, they are pretty helpful.

Knows his stuff and is a pretty interesting guy, but his lectures are hard to understand and often don't correlate with the current reading material, he's very cynical and opinionated and will argue with you if you question him. Tests are relatively easy if you read the text and PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS.. lots of questions on tests from class

I took him for Deviant Behavior and Social Problems. They are basically the same. He talks and rants the whole class, you don't have to really take notes. Tests are multiple choice, kind of hard, you just have to read the text book. He gives pop quizzes so that you will have to come to class and read along in the textbook.

Cool guy. Definitely crazy and prone to tangents which only he finds utterly hilarious. Gives pop quizzes for attendance but easy as long as you read the book. Tests and quizzes are all multiple choice. Easy A.

Hall can definitely be controversial, but that keeps it interesting. He talks really fast but provides good powerpoints and review questions. The class won't be a knockoff, but you'll definitely enjoy it.

He is not helpful if you have questions about previous tests and in general. Doesn't pay close attention to what you are saying or asking him.
