Comment:
Lecturesclass discussion can be long and boring and there is a fair amount of reading. However, Kasson is a really interesting person and obviously knows a great deal about history. If you do the work and put some effort into it and go to all the classes, you'll be fine.

I enjoyed his use of film/sound clips in and out of lecture. While the readings were long, they were interesting. Kasson is extremely knowledgeable, and I enjoyed every lecture. Getting a good TA, doing the readings, and paying attention will ensure a good grade in the class.

Very interesting and engaging class. Kasson doesn't like to give out A's, only A-'s and he can sometimes seem arrogant. I also can't say that I learned all that much b/c everything was very subjective and discussion based. However, overall, Kasson is a kind and funny man and both classes I took with him were worth my time.

I was looking forward to the class but he made an interesting subject super boring. There are quizzes in each recitation and the TAs grade HARD. It is necessary to read all of the material assigned or you will fail. All tests are short answer & essay & there are a few papers. They test you on really obscure/random facts so you have to study A LOT

Although it has the potential to be an engaging, interesting class, Kasson ruins it. He is monotonous, incredibly dull, and trivial. Also, I have to agree that he is arrogant and rude...he is constantly amazed at all the things we, his students, do not know. Don't take this class unless you have to you WILL regret it.

Seems nice in class but is very impolite, rude, and arrogant in person. Classes are boring. The TA's do all of the grading so just hope you get a good TA.

Prof. Kasson is the best teacher I had a Carolina. The man is interested and knowledgeable. He isn't a slacker, and can be demanding, but he's also fair and helpful. He taught me how to write and how to think clearly more than anyone else. Rock on!!

Nice, interesting and incorporates a lot of different things into his classes (video, radio, singing). Great teacher and a great class. One of my favorite teachers at UNC

Great teacher. There's a good bit of reading for this course, but it are novels you will like. Very good course, though lectures may be a bit vague. Tests are relatively easy
