Good at encouraging class discussion and making his students think, Professor Cantwell always made his classes enjoyable. He teaches his American Studies classes from a literary angle, so be prepared to think critically. He thinks about the material in a very complex way.

Great professor and nice guy in general. I took a first-year seminar with him and his class really helped me persevere through my first semester of college. He really cares about his students, and the class gave me a new perspective on how you could look at literature.

Professor Cantwell is an interesting guy. He thinks a little differently than normal, but he is realy respectful of everyone in class and grades pretty easy. Lots of reading and we didn't even use 1/2 the assigned books, but overall i recommend this class.

This class was a success in every sense of the word--Cantwell has an absolutely brilliant mind and has the singular ability to bring his students to genuinely fresh, well-considered perspectives on literature. He speaks at an incredibly cultured level, but so long as you fully engage in discussion with him, you'll never leave class confused.

He's brillant and helpful. I enjoyed every minute that I was in his class and only missed one class the entire semester. He does expect you to do the reading, but the novels are well worth your time. I had such a great experience that I think everyone should take cantwell as a professor!

Awesome professor, He loves to teach and is brilliant. Talking to him is fun and he cares about what you have to say regarding ideas. His exams are straight forward and his teaching style is awesome. I highly recommend him. However, he's not easy and expects quality work.
