Comment:
He is a smart guy, don't get me wrong, but a horrible lecturer. His lectures are SO boring and literally exactly from the textbook. The material is challenging as well. I would recommend going to the conferences because the TAs are super helpful and can explain things more clearly. If you can avoid Kurien, do!!!

I took both ECON230 and ECON335 with him and had no trouble. Read the textbooks, do the assignments, and you will be fine. Those who complain about his teaching style and accents tended to be slackers with no attentiveness in class.

I understand the comments about Prof Kurien being difficult to understand, but if you can look past that and take time to ask questions duringafter class, Prof Kurien has a ton to offer. He is clearly extremely knowledgeable and really welcomes questionsspeaking with students. Put in a bit of effort and you will get a lot out of it.

Impossible to understand what he says in lectures. You basically have to study the book on your own. His slides are very disorganized. Don't recommend this course.

Comment:
Professor Kurien is almost impossible to understand. His lectures are useless, in the sense that he just uses the examples of the textbook and follows it like its his bible. He is terrible at explaining concepts if you can understand what he's saying. However, he does help you with assignment questions if you go to him during office hours.

I had Kurien for a semester in ECON 230. He was really bad and I though he'd be ok for a smaller class; I was wrong. He's really hard to understand, his lectures have little to no structure (not to mention boring). He always rushed out at the end of class and when you try to ask him a question, if he manages to hear you he'll never really answer it

Confusing and inarticulate lecturer who speaks in a very monotonous fashion. Try and avoid him, you will get bored and want to leave every class early, that is if you come to class at all.

I really like Professor Kurien. This is true that he has a strong accent, but he is very dedicated to his student and he want you to do great. If you go to conference, do seriously your assignment and read the textbook you will be fine! Moreover I think professor Kurien is a cutie!

I understand how people could really want to avoid his class, but I've enjoyed his classes. He's much better in Development Economics than in Microecon. He is very helpful if you need any help, and it's not THAT HARD to get used to his accents and his way of speaking. Solve lots of technical questions and you'll do well.

Jap Econ (Econ 335) could be so much more interesting. Class was boring. His lecturing inaudible (although in all fairness he does wear hearing aid). Course completely unstructured. You'll be lucky if he writes on the board. Text was ok. To do (relatively) well you must write EVERY single word he speaks and make the best of it before the exam.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE PROF!!! completely incomprehensible, makes going to class unbearable. his slides and comments are useless and unclear. forced to study straight out of the book, therefore, you can't get very much out of this class. not very helpful and just plain awful!!!

Terrible prof. Extremely uninspiring and incomprehensible. Going to class is a complete waste of time too. If anything, listening to his explanations in class will only confuse and frustrate you more. Stick to reading the textbook and attending the conferences.

Comment:
I have Kurien for Econ 313, and am sat in this class right now typing this. He is by far the worst college professor I have ever had. Uncomprehensible, mumbles, reads straight out of the book and is completely unclear. Avoid this class at all costs, or if you have to take it/him, don't go to class, study everything out of the book and use the T.A.s
