Comment:

Dr. Locke is one of the nicest men i've ever met and one of the finest band conductors alive today. He is a former President of the American Bandmasters Association, a position reserved for only the most distinguished American bandsmen. Know your stuff, and you will have no problems with Dr. Locke. He expects the very best from everyone!

I can, without trepidation, say that this man is one of my heroes. He has influenced me beyond measure. The previous students who gave him negative ratings and wrote mean-spirited comments neither understand nor deserve such a fine professor. Wonderful educator, wonderful person.

Dr. Locke is a great teacher and amazing band director. One just has to understand he is a very no nonsense kind of person. I can personally testify that he cares about his students as he offered to drive me to my apartment after a Wind Ensemble concert one night when I had accidentally locked my keys in my vehicle. Dr. Locke is a judgmental **** actually. He is rude, crude, and pompous. And he's definitely not a dean or chancellor. I will be letting the UNC Board of governors know about some of the things he not only said to me but to others as well. Tough luck if he thinks he'll ever get promoted.

Dr. Locke is one HUGE reason the school of music is still standing. Yes he is very demanding and in this day in age that trait is very hard to find. Of course you must be at your very best; WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD WOULDN'T YOU. He has made WE into one of the primier college ensembles in the country. one of the youngest presidents of ABA Great Man

I personally think he is a wonderful teacher. He does expect the best out of his students though, and makes that very clear. He can be a little intimidating, but with all seriousness, if he learns your name and knows who you are he will be very easy to get along with. He is a wonderful conductor and a great conducting teacher as well.

I highly recommend considering taking another professor this class. He's quite the politician, but uses this skill at the student's expense. He's not interested in anyone but himself. I suggest considering Chapel Hill if you wish to attend UNCG for its band ensembles...it might be a better choice.

Extremely intimidating, but he cares about everyone he teaches. He even hosts music camp and other events for high schoolers. He is passionate about music and spreading his love to others, and, though I do not agree with his method of getting it across (intimidation, fear), it does seem to work.

The sheer brutality that can stem out of this man sends a chill up my spine. I have watched carefully how he treats students and handles situations. Plain nasty! I think the tables are turning... That aside, he needs to learn how to motivate all students. This is UNCG after all. A PUBLIC school.
