Comment:
As a person Prof. Morgan is respectable. Strict, knowledgeable and caring about his students. He is probably the kind of teacher you will see in China/Russia/France. Which means strict and boring lecture, lots lots of homework and difficult exams. He expect students to be enthusiastic about Physics, but .most of us are just taking this for req

Only take him if you had a good high school physics class or can teach yourself. Gives 30 question homework assignments each week (not collected) that you basically have to memorize for the exams/quizzes. Does not let you use a calculator on exams/quizzes. Claims that the numbers are easy to do by hand, but throws in long decimals and fractions.

if your only option if John D. Morgan II wait a semester so you don't have to take his class - horrible teacher .. only thing his class teaches you is how to memorize homework problems - doesn't know how to teach and gets mad when you ask him questions

Get ready to memorize 30 homework problems a week, and dont expect to have a life outside if class. Quizzes every week are 30% of your grade and discussion/review sessions are mandatory to do the problems correctly. Youll have to pay for Chegg to learn how to do problems that arent gone over.

John Morgan expects you to do 12 hours of physics a week which is necessary if you want to do well in this class. If you don't know how to teach yourself then he is not the professor for you. Khan academy and/or chegg are a must.

Johnny Morgan is one hell of a professor. He is way over qualified to be teaching PHYS201 but definitely did a solid job. At first he will be very intimidating (no calculators, weekly quiz, etc.) but if you follow along with his teaching, you will learn physics better than anyone in other 201 sections. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, they help a lot.

I went to his class with a teachable attitude, which is (always) necessary if you want to do well in anything. In this class, it is the student's responsibility to read and conceptually understand the material. The instructor in this course emphasizes the importance of exact and correct mathematical expressions and their role in physical situations

Do you enjoy rainbows and magic? Do you enjoy puppies and smiles? Do you enjoy having a life out of school? If you answer yes to any of the above do not take this class. Even your dreams are not safe from this horrible man. He turns any happy thought into anger. He grades very harshly, is very dull, and demands you have no life out of school.

By judicious use of dimensional analysis and symmetry ... you should not take his class. He's the worst professor I've had. Seriously.

Morgan's class is pointless. You cover almost nothing beyond PHYS201207. Harshest grader I've had; almost no partial credit. Has weekly review sessions that are "almost" mandatory, and will grade harsher if you don't attend. Grading is very inconsistent between student. He doesn't know the material. Avoid at all costs; you won't learn anything.

He's been teaching this course for a long time and you can tell. It is very well outlined. He writes everything on the board and makes sure that you don't miss anything during derivations of formulas. His partial credit policy sucks the D.

There is absolutely no reason to make an introductory class as hard as he did. Simply because he can do advanced calculus in his head he assumes everyone can and prohibits the use of calculators on his exams. Overall I'd give him a D as a professor.

The key to doing well in this class is being very careful with all your math on tests (cant use calculators) and making sure you know how to do/understand every hw problem (even thought there are a lot). Tests are like hw problems, with some tricks. Go to him for help. He is arrogant, but helpful.
