Cog psy is a hard subject area, especially if you are not interested in it. With Whit, you really have to pay attention and ask questions or else you will be lost. Attendance is a must to pass the class. The exams are not too bad. Just study all of your notes and lecture notes. He is a super smart and interesting guy and so are his lectures.

Incredibly interesting, engaging lectures, very challenging (but fair) exams. He cares more about your own personal performance (how well you have improved throughout the course) than your actual exam grades. He is easy to talk to, and is clearly a genius. Really great professor.

Whit was an interesting professor. He made the material harder than it needed to be. You can easily pass it but have to really study to get a good grade.

If you are genuinely trying and you ask questions and talk a lot in class, you will be fine. I went to him after every exam to try to improve and tried to answer questions in class or ask questions. He really just wants to see you making improvements and striding towards a critical thinker. It was tough, but show up and try and you'll be ok

I was so scared to take this class because of the comments on here. One of the best professors at UConn. He lets you have class discussions and lets you ask any questions and he will clarify anything. He rarely says NO but rather, "I never thought of that idea" ,"that's interesting that you said that", etc. Really lets you think about the material

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH WHIT. his lectures are very confusing and goes off on random tangents. can't pay attention and his tests are basically impossible to pass. the class average of first exam was a D- and he doesn't curve. THIS CLASS DOESNT MAKE SENSE

His lectures are way confusing, but he's genuinely cares about his students. I didn't read the textbook and just attended lectures. His exams are always organized the same way and he's willing to lower how much each exams are weighed if you progressively get better. I got a 54 on the first exam, 78 on 2nd and 92 on 3rd and got an A in the class.

If you want to preserve your gpa, find a different class or look for another professor because this was a struggle. I am a straight A & B student and had never had an exam grade less than a 76 before this class. First exam? 58. Class average? 44. Let that tell you something. Nice guy overall, but horrifically disorganized.

Probably the hardest course I've ever taken. His lectures are super confusing and seem to make zero sense. His exams are super difficult as well, mostly fill ins & and an essay. He doesn't even have a syllabus explaining how he grades in the course! Very unorganized man.

If you want to get a decent grade, do not take Whit Tabor. He is very confusing, very unorganized and his lectures are difficult to sit through. He's a genuinely nice guy and is willing to help you, but my learning style and his teaching method just did not mix well. Now I have to re-take the class (Def NOT with him!!!!)

Pretty nice professor, but the information he gives is very hard to understand. He goes off on tangents often and is extremely unorganized. His exams are pretty difficult as well. They include mostly fill in the blanks and an exam question. Not straight-ford at all.

Whitney Tabor is a great guy and very intelligent. I took cognition with him Fall 2012. He utilized the "socratic" method. If you pay attention in class and ask questions, you can understand the material. It was a challenging class because of the amount of material. But i learned LOADS. Definitely take him if you are serious about cognitive psych.

He really means well and will help you if you ask him, but this class is extremely hard. He is unorganized and goes on tangents, expects you to know way more than reasonable. Attendance is mandatory because his slides have minimal information, write down every word he says or you'll definitely get lost.

A bit unorganized i have to agree but not a hard class in my opinion. The tests require some critical/analytical thinking but if you go to class you should know what hes looking for. Currently in the class now and got an A on the first exam with minimal studying

He means well, he really does. He's a nice guy if you talk to him and ask him for help. HOWEVER, he is the most unorganized professor I have ever had, and his lectures were miserable to sit through. He tries to teach too much and goes into too much depth for anyone to understand it. If it wasn't for Gajewski, I would have never survived.

class was co-taught by Tabor and Gaewski, Tabor's lectures were very hard to follow. posts his slides but there isnt much information on them, you can never tell whats important and what isnt. he's willing to help if you need it. I learned everthing from the other professor.

This class was duel taught between Bontly and Tabor. Very difficult. Tabor is a very nice guy, but often unorganized. He lost my homework (twice) and I re did both of them for credit. No book, and lecture is hard to follow. Not easy for a non-major.

I had Whit for both Cogs2201 and Psyc2501. He's the nicest guy and will happily give you extra help. However, he is unorganized and sometimes unfocused in lecture. Oh and you HAVE to go to lecture or you'll just end up lost. He puts the slides online but without direction, you'll never follow. exams- open ended and require critical thinking.

There are two kinds of bad - the deliberate kind and the Tabor kind. Believe me when I say that Tabor-like indifference and ineptitude, while somewhat less malevolent, can still wreck whatever aspects of your education it happens to intertwine with - especially if you liked the subject before hand. If you love psych or language, avoid Tabor.
