Spends all class lecturing off of the reading if you want to pass you NEED TO READ!! He has a pretty thick accent & is pretty soft spoken, if you cant hear him sit near the front. Also I barely showed up to class, I mostly would only show up for review however I actually did the reading section. I participated during the reviews & managed a B+

John Murungi, Murungi as he wanted to be known, was inspiring and invitational, as his lectures were always provocative. "My gosh, did he really say that?" Yes, he did and I had to think and rethink and question my own foundations ... and I did and I learned and I grew and I found there are no limits to my comprehension ... and I was so grateful .

As long as you participate in class and pay attention, you will pass. Takes a bit of studying for the 4 assignments which are all exams that you will be given in class (including the Final Exam).

Nice guy but doesn't follow the syllabus at all. 3 exams all year and those are the only grades for the entire semester. he gives a study guide, which helps a lot. you actually have to read the textbook or you'll fail. isn't attendance based but when people start to not show up he will take attendance and base your final grade off of that.

He doesn't really follow the syllabus. All of his courses have about the same assignments: 3 tests, 2 in-class summaries, and a final paper. For his tests you are required to choose 4 from about 8 question options to write essays on. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. You to write at least a page for ea. & be sure to WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS during lectures.

Professor Murungi is the best professor I have ever had. If you are looking for a truly inspirational and provocative philosophical education, then take his classes. Nothing will be served on a platter for you, which means you will have to think for yourself, for once.

Do not take this class with this professor. His class is just 75 minutes of him standing rambling on and on and if your lucky, he writes something on the board. He has a thick accent and talks very softly so it is very hard to understand anything he says. Only thing that counts towards your grade is the tests. Do not take this class!!!!

Do not take this man's class. He has an accent and he makes no sense in his 50 min lecture and offers examples that do not relate to anything he is discussing. Also, don't take Phil 101 with him. He assigned a 200 dollar book and expected us to buy it. Unless you have 200 dollars to spend on ONE book in a 101 level course, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!

I would NOT recommend Dr. Murungi. His lectures are the absolute WORST. All he does in stand in front of the class and rambles. No powerpoints, and barely writes anything on the board. Only graded material are exams, and you have to write a lot if you want to get a semi decent grade. My exams would be 4 papers long when I turned them in, got B-'s.

AVOID AT ALL COST, lectures are the most boring thing on the face of the earth. He has the thickest accent and is so soft spoken that you can't understand what he is saying, and when to start to understand, he goes on a tangent that has nothing to do with the class. Had a lot of bad teachers in my life, Murungi is by far the worst.

I would never take this man for any classes or wish upon my worst enemies that they have to take this class 343 with him. Maybe he's okay for other classes, I'm not sure. But for this one he's awful and rambles and is very hard to follow. If you write a lot for his tests you'll at least get a C. He likes people to ramble like he does I guess.

He has an accent, but after one or two classes you pick up on it and he's not difficult to understand at all. There are no powerpoints, he stands up and lectures every class. I bought all of the textbooks and didn't read any of them because his tests are based solely off of what he talks about in class.

Class time wasn't really the best. He rambles for an hour talking about the readings but it gets confusing really quick. He often goes off on tangents. He also has an accent so if you are worried you won't be able to understand him, don't take the class. Only 4 tests, and no hw but the test are all essays. I would'nt recommend him for phil101.

Murungi was EXTREMELY hard for me to understand. Even when sitting in the front super close I had to really make an effort to pick apart his words. He seems knowledgable however he tends to ramble and go on to the point where I no longer know what he's talking about. Lots of reading, rarely writes on the board, just talks at you for an hour.

Murungi is an intelligent man who clearly knows what he is talking about. However with his accent and constant rambling, it's hard to grasp what he is actually teaching. The class lacks structure as he gives basically no notes, only talks. There is no hw and the tests are essay style and he expects you to write a lot even if there's limited time

Content can be a bit confusing BUT it is easy to get an A. Go to every class and participate even if you don't understand. Ask questions even if they are dumb. All he wants you to do is try. Talk to him after class and make sure he knows you. Loves to talk. Write a lot on the tests and you will be good. Long as he knows you tried you'll be good.

Murungi is a sweet guy, and if you go to him for help he is more than willing. He appreciates if you come to him. Grading is a little confusing, but only 4 written exams including the final. Do the readings and have an opinion on them. Go to class if you want a good grade on exam. Would recommend if you're trying to fulfill core requirement

Comment:
Very confusing to follow during his lectures. He is clearly very knowledgable, and will answer questions well, though very few questions are asked. This is likely because his lectures are a constant stream of tangents at times. Don't expect helpful feedback on tests, it is hard at times to understand what you did wrong.

Murungi is a really nice guy, just not the best teacher. The lectures can be confusing and difficult to see the connection between topics. The readings are pretty important. He's not an incredibly hard grader, but you do have to work for it. The tests aren't terrible; he gives you a selection of 10 essay questions and you have to answer 4.

Dr. Murungi is a very nice man and is passionate about philosophy, but he does not teach well. Most of the lectures can be confusing and he goes off on tangents during lecture. Lectures were based off of the readings assigned and the tests were on those readings. He has a thick accent which could be difficult to understand. Take at your own risk
