If you can avoid this professor, AVOID HIM! He rambles on and on about the Law of Laziness and how his way is easier and therefore better. It is not and will not help you in any chemistry later on. His textbook (that he wrote) is 4 chapters and is finished by week 6. He repeats the entire lesson from the previous day as he forgets his spot. Avoid!!

Highly recommend increasing your level of caffeine before class. Olsen isn't very clear about what he's teaching and you have to figure it out on your own for the most part. He wants you to do Chemistry his way, so beware; he does tell you to forget all that you knew about Chem from beforehand so I guess it was expected...

Rambles on & moves w/ remarkable speed; there is no time to digest anything. Has created a method of doing every kind of problem that relates to what he calls The Law of Laziness, and each method shown is ridiculously & unacceptably confusing. Scales down grading scale every year b/c nobody ever does well. I beg of you, avoid this professor.

Dr. Olsen has his own style of teaching. I don't learn much in class; actually I zone out from boredom, but printing and reading the notes is helpful, and a sure way to pass the quizzes. Office hours are more beneficial than class.

Do not take this teacher, he wrote his own book and teaches from it but it is more confusing than it is helpful, all he does during lass is read over the notes that he makes you prin off, he dosnt do any of the math problems which makes it difficult to understand and it makes the class boring because all he does is stand in front and mumble

Dr. Olson's class was difficult for me at first because I was not accustomed to programming a calculator. I spent a lot of time in his office, and once I understood where he was coming from - he made Chemistry so easy! Try to understand the broad strokes and comes into focus after that. He's quirky and not at all eloquent - but he's brilliant!

He tries to teach from his own book which he claims is easier because he's lazy. He even says this, everything goes back to how lazy he is. Class is basically sitting in the desk, listening to him read the notes back to you until you're completely lost, bored to tears or both.
