Excellent teacher! He makes you feel like more than just a number at VCU. Generally brings very interesting topics to class and can easily start a class discussion. Study his study guides and the book and the tests aren't bad! I ended up with an A in the class, but effort is definately required.

i love the class. it was VERY interesting and the teacher is nice and explain well and give examples. test are easy of you follow his study guide. there are 3 papers and i think those are a little hard but if you do it in something you like its interesting.

One of my favorite professors. 3 multiple choice exams and 2 6-8pg papers required. His lectures are interesting and is able apply real world examples to the class material to keep it relevant. Absolutely recommended!

Hes very knowledgeable but sometimes his lectures are dry. Still, he makes it clear what you need to know for tests etc. So you should do well if you read the book/ take notes. Hes also head of the department so if you do well in his class, a recommendation letter from the head of department looks really really good...

Overall class is pretty easy. I got a C+ and thats only because I went to class only when the weather was nice. Tries to make the class interesting by joking around, but nobody laughed. Still a nice guy, though. Puts class discussions on BB. Tests are easy as long as you look over notes. Overall good class.

Fun, Liberal guy. Uses a lot of media sources. 2 papers (easy), 3 tests. Even recorded lectures and posted them on blackboard. Has attendance policy, but not rigid. Into himself, but it's more amusing than annoying. Over all good class.

I had Dr. Mahoney for an honors section of SOCY 101.. it was the class I was most dreading, but it turned out to be the class that I looked forward to attending. He covers the material nicely, and uses GREAT examples to illustrate his main points. If you take sociology classes, you definitely want to take them with him.

Dr. Mahoney really brings his political beliefs into the classroom. In fact, he shoves them in your face during every single lecture he gives. Personally, I think it's a sign of a lack of intelligence and maturity. But, I guess that's what should be expected out of the ridiculous sociology program.

Great teacher,great class. Everyone should be required to take this class and you want to take it from Mahoney. I'm a business major and this class is the one that has stuck with me the most, relates to organizational behavior. Very interesting lectures, great sense of humor. Never bought book-got B
