I think he is exhausted teaching. He needs to change his career. When you need clarification, he makes you feel as if you're the last person in the world to not know. When you do your best, he criticizes your work. It's almost as if he know you need his class as a requirement, and he doesn't care.

He was not good at all. Really not meant to be a teacher at all.

The (DIGITAL!) readings are often over 50 pages, so you'd think the quizzes are about important concepts; however they are more so on trivial facts. He does not provide constructive criticism. I got a B- once and the only comment was "ok." He does not teach unless asked, so if there's something you need to know but didn't catch, good luck.

Good teacher, but relies too heavily on trivia quizzes (think: Jeopardy) as opposed to actual analytical work.

Looks down on UB students, classism, I suppose. Treats us all like we are apathetic.

1 or 2 small areas but thats what they "REALLY" wanted you to talk about. With this degree you'll be heading into marketing or human resources to hire someone to actually do the work you should've learned. Thats why I switched majors i.e. don't fooled by the title its not what it seems.

P.S. I didn't mean to downplay Marketing, Human Resources, or Reporting but the degree is very misleading for those that are pursuing another career e.g. Info Tech.

Avoid this one. There are many negatives and few or no positive aspects about this guy and his class. A lot of work is given, but nothing new or interesting is learned. Useless, obvious information was taught as if it were ground breaking material. The pointless and boring reading assignments are endless. He makes students uncomfortable.

This is the kind of professor that will not appeal to most students. Of all the teachers I have had so far in UB, I recommend him the least.

Not worth your time. He is one of those teachers that assumes no one in his class is trying to get into grad school

Shorr and his tiny band of loyalists can get on here and overpost all of the flattering comments that they want, but most people know the truth.

I liked this teacher. He gives thoughtful assignments. I wrote my all time favorite and most enjoyable paper in his class. Once though, he gave me a B on a paper that I thought I deserved an A on because I met all the criteria. Overall, good communications teacher. I never experienced him as rude or belittling.

I had Dr. Shorr for Modern Drama. From my experience in his class, he was not at all belittling or rude to students. He is not an easy grader, but make an appointment for him to go over your paper, fix anything he says, and you have an A. You must read everything in order to do well.

Had him twice already for two similar courses, all relating to reading & being critical of popular culture & media. He can be entertaining, but is a little outdated with some of the examples of pop culture he uses. He could get with the times a little better. Not a bad teacher, but not my favorite.

I agree about just taking the hit on your grade and not participating in Shorr's class. One of the bad things about going to UB is that with ENGL, Corp Comm, you have to deal with these professor and their bull---- and Shorr is the worst one.

Shorr can be very mean and belittling. Seems that he feels cheated that he is not teaching at an elite school. He can also be nice and funny, but that's the thing, in a flash he can be quite nasty. Wear a helmet and don;t participate in class discussion. Take the hit on your grade for class part, it will be worth it.

Had him for various classes, and an independent study. He knows his stuff. While sometimes "pointed" in response to questions that proved a student wasn't paying attention (IMHO: rightly s), his comments were right on the mark and often helpful.

Definitely a hard grading professor. Beware! Make no assumptions on what he wants in your work--ask! And the book is not as helpful as it seems. Was extremely accessible, however. Incredibly arrogant and belittling with his sarcasm.
