Dr Thorp's passion for the subject is contagious. Lectures are really well presented and there is not a single dull moment in his class. He gives very good feedback on the essays too. Dr Thorp is a gem of a person and an absolutely delightful professor. Highly recommended.

Dr. Thorp is a very interesting and passionate prof, but if you're taking this course (as I did) out of interest in Science vs. Religion you're somewhat miss guided. This course turns into a lot of religious study at times. As far as grading Thorp is pretty easy with marking essays and the exam isn't too complicated which is nice.

Great course and amazing teacher. Keeps the class engaged and presents the content in an interesting manner. He is an extremely fair marker and it's possible to get 90+ on your essay! He is also very knowledgeable about the things he talks about, so he's able to give you very clear answers to questions.

Loved him! I'm pretty sure he's actually Santa. I got above 90% on both essays, and I must have done equally well on the exam because I ended the course with a 93%. I strongly recommend going to lectures - he is very thorough with his explanations and if you listen and make good notes the exam is a piece of cake!

Wonderful professor. He really knows his stuff and clearly cares about his teaching. He gave very clear lectures that were a pleasure to attend. He also gives lots of fun facts that make the course more interesting, but they also show that he's knowledgeable all-around in the area. Would recommend!

Very good course! Interesting topics and discussions, Dr. Thorp is an excellent lecturer. Essays get great feedback - the professor or the TA basically writes you an essay of feedback about your own essay lol. Also took 1020 with thorp and enjoyed his teaching as well :) Favourite prof

John Thorp is a passionate, Oxford educated academic who knows his stuff. His class is not the easiest, but he is by far one of the best, nicest, and swagtacular educators I have ever known. I back this guy.

Great lecture. engaging speaker. My criticism of this course is that the testing is poorly done. The tests focus on tiny details, and not the big picture, so it's very difficult to study for.

Wonderful professor. Does not share powerpoint notes on WebCT but if you can type fast enough, I recomend typing everything he says so that at the end of the lecture you have comprehensive notes that will make studying for the midterms easier. Overall a great class, and it is not impossible to get over 80% in it.

Prof. Throp is an excellent instructor. He breaks things down in a way that makes sense. My only criticism is that he sometimes goes too fast and won't share his PowerPoint presentations on WebCT so I spend most of his lecture trying to type quick enough to catch everything. The first mid-term exam was HARD. 70% of people failed.

Thorp is a good prof, but this is by no means an easy course. The essays are difficult to do well on and the exams can be tricky. I would recommend attending every class because Thorp explains everything in a clear, concise manner. The few readings I did do were tough to get through. Go to your tutorial, as you will regret skipping (worth 10%)
