A perfect example why someone responsible for directing bands should have a doctorate in music, not education. Performance ensembles are not the place to teach "methods." In fact, we already have courses in the curriculum for that! Performance level of his groups are on a low middle-school level, and that's no exaggeration.

While he really did not teach much, he guided the student leaders to be the best they could be. He has Todd M on guard staff, Mr. Johnson on perc staff, Mr Gallagher and Mr. Otto as assistants - who could ask for a better staff. I am excited about this year. I just worked with him at at clinic of his and learned a lot. A motivating teacher!

I am also in Crossmen. Dr. V is swayed with the wind by people who do not know. Please tell me that WCU is NOT getting the Crossmen arranger or staff. Big mistake, I heard it at practice today - the rumor. The Rams will go down in flames like the perc. section at Xmen. Performing in Blast does not an arranger make.

Sometimes rewards those that hurt the program. for ex- The arranger caused all of our (WCU) problems last season! If we use the guy again, maybe we will loose all of the drill designers and another percussion staff. What is the common denominator each year - the arranger! Punctuality is important - cut the arranger loose! We will survive..

My parents once came to a concert, and said the following: "Your middle school was better than that." The reason for this is that my middle school director could at least count rhythms, read notes, and basically just wasn't a complete moron. i agree with the person that said he has a reason for everything he does. The reason is that he has an IQ of 6. He is an emmbarasment to the school, town, and community. I once was refused a job because the employer knew I studies with this man. If you ask him a question, he will look at you like an ape because he doesnt know the answer

Dr. Villella is an ****. But he cares about his students. I could always go to Dr. V when I needed to. Yea, it seems like he thinks he's the****, and yea, he is an ****. But overall, he really cares about music and his students. The ony thing I didn't like was that he's trying to turn the band into a drum corp by weeding out all the woodwinds.

Dr. V is a very successful business man. He knows what he's doing, and he just knows everythign about everything that goes on in the school of music. He's strict and might come off as a "mean" guy, but it's just the way that he deals with the 10,000 situations that he has to deal with. He's fair, and he has a reason for *everything* that he does.

Okay.....he gets to the point when you ask him a question, but he is SO impersonal and brusk. I don't think he likes flute players - like myself - or freshman. He's friends w/my lesson teacher and former band director, but I can't understand it. HE ISN'T FRIENDLY!!! He's just so f***ing rich and powerful. Have an opinion? Don't care about it!
