I've never had to work so hard for an A minus in my life, but it was worth it. Dr. DeRitter is, while biased on some things, a fantastic professor. Example: Microsoft Word glitched and I ended up submitting a blank version of my final exam. He gave me extra time to retype it and didn't take any points off. You will work hard, but he recognizes it.

He is honestly the worst professor I've ever had at the U. DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is completely rude and insanely annoying. He will grade you horribly if you don't agree with his opinion. If you think poems are subjective THINK AGAIN. Its his way or the highway. He will tell you that there is no way you will pass this class with an A and then laugh.

Dr. DeRitter is extremely nice and willing to help. I've never had a problem contacting him through email or going to his office hours. I've taken two of his classes and while they are reading-heavy, if you do the work, you'll get a good grade. It's that simple. The people who dislike him tend to be the ones who are not willing to put the work in.

Hey! Have an opinion I don't like? Guess I'll just have to bring down a letter grade haha! Did you change your entire essay after doing every single thing I told you? Best I can do Is a B for this essay. Terrible human being and teacher, extremely biased and teaches you obscure grammar you will never use again. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

This man is horrible. Emailed him numerous times regarding my why I was receiving certain grades, never received a response. Went to office during office hours, never there. After my third consecutive B, I had to get nasty through an email. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Finished with a B, which was higher than the class average. Awful class.

He is such a nice guy. However! If you expect to have a social life on weekends. Kiss that bye bye. He has you read 300 pages every 3 days. Most of the class doesn't read the book and fails on pop quizzes given almost every class. The avg on the first essay was a C. Bye Bye overall avg also!

I'm not an English major. I took this class because it incorporated CL/D/W into my capp sheet which was great. However, I put more work into this class than I did my biophysical chemistry class. Literally a book a week with two pretty involved papers. Also, he was very scatter brained. I had no idea what to expect every day. Wouldn't recommend.

This class wasn't bad at all. Dr. DeRitter is a great teacher, and even though this was a FYS class, I still felt that I got something out of it. I did get sick of all of the dystopian literature, but overall I enjoyed it. Plus, I managed to get an A- without reading a single book. Definitely recommend him.

Take him if you have the opportunity. Paper topics are interesting and quizzes are easy. Class is sometimes, boring but all you have to do is show up. DeRitter is a very nice guy and wants to see his students enjoy the class. An easy B+.

Had this guy for a for a class that combined writing and public speaking. It was worth six credits, so I was pretty nervous. DeRitter is a great and approachable guy, though. He's a bit of a tough essay grader, but he's always willing to give lots of help. I'd definitely recommend him.

He is a very helpful teacher and wants to see his students do good. However, he is a tough grader on essays. Lots of quizzes but theyre fair and easy -- you'll be fine if you read the material. Has a good sense of humor & is overall a really nice guy. But I wouldn't reccomend taking it if you're not an english major.

Funny, smart, reasonable...this guy is fantastic! I plan to take him again for other electives. If you read the books, you'll do fine on quizzes. More than willing to help, and always available. Read lots of books, watch some movies, then expect to have intelligent, honest convos. I learned so much from him!

LOVE HIM! Such a sweet guy. Classes are fun, the movies he incorporates are awesome-you learn a lot from him. He's one of my fav profs at the U. You read almost a book a week, write two big papers and five small ones. Oral presentation is mandatory. Attendence policy is fair. All around awesome class. Take him for anything!
