Comment:

To start I want to say that John has no interest in how good you do, or your ability to learn in this course. The work is heavy and he shames you if you don't know the answers. He judges people and points out that you probably will fail his exams and laughs about it. All in all if you want to have a solid GPA, this class ain't it chief.

I'm going to save your semester and GPA right now, by telling you to not take this course with this man. Yes he is rated around a 3.0 but I promise you this class is awful with him. Expect to do homework for hours and get 70's on it while he doesn't explain what you did wrong. Only math teacher I know of that doesn't give a study guide either.

Grades every homework like the SAT's or an Exam. You can spend 2-3 hours on a homework, complete it all thoroughly and easily still get a 60 or below. I've done it myself and so have others that I know. I think it's ridiculous the way he grades. On one homework it was 5 problems, I got 4 completely right, and one a little wrong and got a 66.

An introductory course to CS or IT major. Professor is really intelligent. Literally wrote the book for the class. WROTE THE BOOK! Course itself is easy and just an introductory course but professor Willemain does try his best to make it interactive. Also, he's a funny guy. Taking another course from him next semester.

If you need help, he is always available during office hours and is willing to give many clues to help you get started if you don't know how to do a homework problem. As long as you do the homeworks (which generally are pretty easy to do if you follow the notes) you will do well.

Was a tough class, very heavy on the book. Homework is given every class that will take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Tries to be funny but nobody really gets the joke except himself. Will take time out of class to help you with whatever you need and is not afraid to call on you in class if you don't raise your hand.

This is my third course with Willemain. He is an awesome professor. Always great having his $8 textbook. He is always there to give extra help and he always gives you what you need to know for exams. The only downfall is 2 hours of HW every class. Highly recommend for math.

Great professor. Super funny in his own way. Gives homework for every class but its not much and accepts late work until the last week. You can get an A as long as you study a bit. Loves Lord of the Rings and Rush. Great guy would take again. Makes his own textbook which is like $8 at the bookstore.

I really enjoyed taking his classes for the past 2 semesters. He tries to make the subject more interesting with puns or pop culture references. I would recommend him if your planning on doing homework and coming to class to not fall behind.

He teaches the book straight off his powerpoint. Great content he teaches, just when you ask for help, its the attitude and expression towards helping students that is a little below par. Otherwise he is a great guy and passionate about comp. sci.

If you want an A, then attend every class, complete your homework, and study hard for quizzes and exams. He does not hand out A's.. if you put an effort into understanding the material, you will pass. He is hilarious, very helpful, sings a lot, teaches step by step, very structured professor that knows what he is talking about. I would take again!

I took this class as an elective because I was interested in learning about computers. As an INTRO level class I thought I would be okay not knowing anything about computers, boy was I wrong. I have (had) a 3.8 GPA going into this class... I failed my first final EVER due to this class. Horrible professor!!!

Very good professor. Somewhat lenient on grading. Homework grade is very important in his class; lets you redo any bad homework grades. Quiz almost once a week, but only takes the 5 highest graded quizzes. He wrote the book, so he knows what to teach and how to teach it. Gives lots of examples and works with class to answer them.

I did not have him as a professor, but he was the one who created the tests for my class as well as wrote the book for the class. The concepts were somewhat easy to understand just based off of the way that MY professor teaches it, the tests had somewhat hard questions. I definitely would have failed if my teacher was an accommodating grader

Very frustrating class. He was very rude during office hours and made me feel stupid for not understanding the work. Did not care if you did well in his class at all and almost felt like he wanted you to fail. Always talked about how cool he was for writing the text book, it got old quickly. This class was so hard and dropped my GPA A LOT!

VERY HARD GRADER!!! He gives practically zero partial credit on his exams. Inconsistent grading; gives good grades on quizzes but is very tough on exams. DOES NOT CURVE HIS GRADES!! The D I got in his class is the only D I have ever received in any class. It destroyed my GPA and I nearly lost my scholarship!!! I do not recommend him at all!!!
