Comment:

Great prof. He takes attendance but it's not for marks so you really don't have to go. He gives exam questions before the exams so textbook reading is minimal and is super chill with deadlines. Makes up for the fact that he is a tough grader and does not give clear rubrics. It's not hard to figure out what he wants though.

I like him, but he has an arbitrary grading system (isn't clear and will not give higher than 88). Yes, you will never get higher than 88! So guess what? I finished with an 88% Does that mean I got 100%? So bizarre! Other than grading policies he's a grate prof. And no, not bitter just don't understand his reasoning for this. Also takes attendance!

I would recommend this class to anyone. As long as you stay on track with modules and readings, you will do fine. 3 papers, not too hard, more so time consuming. Fast and fair grader. Enjoyable course, great professor, no complaints here. If you're unsure of whether to take this class or not- take it

I took his social work with families course. Was very distinct and took days to receive a response back. His answers were very brief and rarely answered my full question. He does not provide rubrics and it is not always clear what he is asking when it comes to assessments and assignments. I would have enjoyed this class more if he was more present.

I loved writing my paper for this class. Professor Boyd made the class interesting and really knows what he is talking about. The material was fascinating. I would take this class again.

Classes were full of discussion and he loves getting feedback from students! He works in his field and is dedicated to his own learning as well as his students' - so he really likes to engage the class in meaningful discussion. Textbook isn't necessary though, since he takes right from it for lectures!

I am so happy to take a course with Jon Boyd. He is very knowledgeable in his field and clearly passionate about it. He is also fair, easily accessible, and very clear about this expectations. He is also very supportive. My favourite prof thus far this term. He makes me feel very inspired to become a Social Worker. Thank you, Professor Boyd!

I really LOVED John Boyd. He is an easy marker and he provides all of the long answer essay questions for all of his exams and also gives hints throughout class for his MCQ. he is very fair and also gets the information across nicely. I didn't read the text the entire course and got an 85. take it with him

It was a fairly intense course, but it was amazing. He has a lot of experience in his field, teaches with real passion, but does require and reward participation. I would take any course he offered and, while I know that it will mean working hard, you are very likely to care deeply about whatever subject he is teaching by the end of the course.

very very easy course. Everything you need to know is on the slideshows and he is very discussion orientated but they are never on the tests so classes are not mandatory but he does do attendance. Very easy marker, gives you short answer questions in advance before the tests and very helpful

This was an online class. Usually Jon is really great but he was VERY absent for most of this course. It would take days for him to respond to discussion questions, he was unable to help with questions regarding midterm marks and he was very late getting essay grades back before the exam. The midterm was tough, but the exam wasn't nearly as bad

1) Be prepared for lots of participation 2)requires you to record a 20 min video of you pretending to counsel someone 3) you have to write a 750 word paper on your participation in the course 4) the class does practice role plays in class, which he videos and plays in class so you can all watch. Best prof ever! Very helpful and the lectures were always interesting. I loved all three of his courses and also wish he taught more. Gonna miss him:(
