Comment:

One of the most qualified professor, just ethics involved in forcing students to buy his expensive book knowing he was retiring. That he knew the book can't be resold, used for only 3 readings half semester, and with the 3 stories copied/ available in a library book seems to be insensitive to students' financial situation. Enjoy your retirement.

He is retired now but that textbook he put together and asked us to buy is way exorbitant! It is worthless and very inconsiderate. I hope he reads this and understand our opinion. Over a hundred dollar on a textbook with 3 stories read for 2 months period is questionable...

He's a hard marker, but you just have to follow the rules, be on time and keep it simple.. it's what a student is supposed to do. As a non-native speaker I found his class very helpful.

Hard marker? Maybe, would say fair. Tells u EXACTLY what/how he wants the work done; talks about every story detailed. Read them before class (unannounced in-class writings). In my home country we write essays MUCH different! He showed me how to do it here. Considering I'm not native speaker, I finished with a B and started of with low C-. He rocks

If you follow his instructions for assignments, you're fine. How do I get a good grade you ask! "Buy the books, do the readings, be on time, come to class and you'll be fine" will be the response he gives. Don't use a fancy vocabulary, keep it SIMPLE. If you want to know why/where you loose marks, BUG HIM IN PERSON, HE DOES NOT ANSWER EMAILS!

Worst teacher I have ever had. First of all, he freaked everyone out with his random yelling of stories.Secondly, I lost marks on an ENGLISH ESSAY because I used an "impressive vocabulary" , was told to "use plain english" and "don't write to impress" which is crazy. Then he wouldn't let me write the exam because I had poor attendance. STAY AWAY.

There is nothing nice that I can say about this parasite. This professor gave me a "D" on an essay my sister did for me when she goes to Laurier and gets straight A's. He doesn't teach well, he is cocky, and his only reason for giving a "D" is "Weak Analysis. I hope he finds himself a nice spot in hell, because that is where he will end up.

If it's hard it's worth teaching. If you can't make it easy to learn then it's not....Uh I forgot his quote but Great guy. Funny. Sometimes he upsets me but that's cause I missed a few classes and well...it's the end of me. Don't miss class and you'll be okay. and he's not bluffing when he says to read the stories.

Even though I did find him to be a little bit of a harsh marker, I did thoroughly enjoy his class. The textbook was full of interesting stories. Make sure you do ALL the required reading because he does unannounced in-class writing throughout the semester. He takes attendance ever class, so make sure you show up. He can be little intimidating.

The best teacher I've ever had. Do exactly what he wants and you'll have A. I'm an ESL student and I finished (the semester) with A. He's not a hard marker, but he marks for grammar and spelling mistakes. Also, he allows you to bring your textbook on the final with your own notes inside! Amazing teacher!

Jon was an amazing teacher. His assignments were intimidating at first, but after he explains it there is no way not to know exactly what he expects from you. I learned a lot from him and my writing definitely improved! He was always very enthusiastic and made classes worth attending. I will take all the classes he teaches.

I was optomistic about English. Not anymore. Tells students that he can't fix 4 years of high school in 15 weeks. Even though my writing improved in his class, I consitently stayed at a C. When approaced about his marking scheme, he became flustered and left the class. Avoid if possible. He will probably grade my post. Stay away!!!!
