I have no clue what everyone is talking about- he was a great instructor- didn't seem to be "full of himself" at all. He encouraged students to speak up and never told anyone they were wrong. He assigned relevant and important readings and his essays were well explained but left room for more exploration. Great class- great teacher.

He is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is sharp, clear and appears to have mellowed out after these other classes he taught. His readings were mind blowing and his lectures were poignant to say the least. Truely a very important class that has changed my life and academic understanding of the world we live in.

This arrogant man just loved to barriage you with big words and seemed to never make a point and manuevered around questions. Like telling one girl that even though she was from Russia she didn't know what she was talking about when she corrected him about

A narcissist and royal schmuck. He's so full of himself and thinks he's God's gift to women. He's obviously a grown-up spoiled rich kid who never had to work in his life. LOUSY teacher!

Beller is a passionate person. He tries to promote an open forum in his class room, he also argues his own side very fervently, which intimidates a lot of students. However, he is very intelligent, and both the subject matter and lectures were engaging.

Most engaging professor and class I ever had, literature and otherwise. He is intelligent, intense, and extremely articulate, though I agree that he is intimidating. The class materials were of the best intellectual quality. And yeah, he is hot.

This was the 1st class Beller taught at UCSC & he made the worst impression--insulting the class several times during the first lecture and negatively comparing us to USC. Go to any conference he attends and you will see he gives academia a bad name.

Beller had annsane pace, and while we fell behind in the lecture schedule, I feel like this was one the most positively challenging courses i've taken. His pace is intense, but makes up for it in the qualit of texts he selected for the course.
