This is a tough course but JB is incredibly passionate about the subject and really knows his history. He emphasizes that you need to give your full attention all 50 minutes of class and he's incredibly right. Go to class, do the readings, you'll probably pass.

This professor goes old-school and only lectures verbally. Occasionally he will write a few notes on the board but you have to mostly listen to him talk. However, he is very passionate about what he teaches and makes it easier to listen to. Tests are difficult and requires time to study.

The only grades in the class are 3 tests so get ready to study. There will be questions from the reading on the tests that he doesn't mention in lecture. He asks you to learn, he seems to be cold at first but he just cares about your learning and wants you to prove that you put in the effort to get the grade you actually deserve.

He is very smart, but unless you are extremely passionate about history, you will die in his class. Lectures are very packed and detailed, and you basically have to memorize every little detail he says in order to /maybe/ do well on the exams, because you never know what he'll put on there.

This class is EXTREMELY difficult, I am typically an all A student and I failed this class. The entire class is just Billheimer rambling and spitting out information as fast as possible in the class period. He also is very intimidating.

Really smart guy, hard to focus because he's so attractive though. I could hardly look him in the eye. He's a tough tester but go to class every day make an effort and you'll leave with a decent grade. He gives really funny facts to go along with the lesson that could make you lol

class only consisted of 3 tests. be ready to have to study your notes and the book a LOT. There is a lot of info and he grades extremely tough. Interesting lecturer but his class is designed to prepare you for upper level courses.

Do not take him unless you are EXTREMELY passionate about history. Puts way too much material on his tests and expects a lot out of a 1000 level gen ed class. His lectures can be interesting, but you better write down every single thing he says. 3 exams are the only grades you get.

I took World Empires with Billheimer. At the beginning he seems extremely intimidating, but you get used to it after a couple weeks. As long as u do the reading, take detailed notes on his lectures and are somewhat decent at writing you'll do fine. There's only 3 tests and the final isn't cumulative. If you're a good student he'll drop lowest test.

Billheimer is an extremely smart man that wants you to see the connections between historical events. With that being said, this class is hard. I thought he was a great professor but his lectures contain so much information that it can be very overwhelming. I never read and still got an A but it depends. 25 MC with a 50 Essay is the test format.

I love history, but I have never struggled more with a class in my life. Your entire grade is made up of 3 exams. The final exam covered 430 pages in the book... thats all that needs to be said.

The final is 120 multiple choice questions taken from 400 pages of the textbook. That's all I've got to say.

Very very knowledgable in his subject and clearly knows his material but cannot teach it. Every day of class is just notes notes notes. Tests are too short for the amount of notes required, essay questions on the tests are vague. If you don't like taking notes, reading from the textbook, or have a brain don't take this class.

He's a super tough grader. The only three grades in the class are tests. When he says "optional reading" he means mandatory because half of the test is from the textbook. He knows the material so well it's like he's having a conversation with you about it. He barely has to look at his notes. He teaches it really well too.

I am generally an all A student, and always have been. His classes are strictly lecture, no powerpoint, no notes. You get three tests, and so far I have made a 40 and a 60. There is a month worth of notes, yet that one detail you didn't write down as he talked for 50 minutes straight, thats your essay topic. Very enthusiastic though. Hates lateness

hardest class to date i have taken at app. 3 tests are your only grade. don't come in late unless you want to "talk to him after class." tests have one worded questions, and force you to recall extremely trivial details. i take 4-5 pages of notes per day. this is not an exaggeration, get ready for a hard gen ed course. he is passionate about hist.

It's been 5 years since I had Billheimer for my freshman seminar (What makes Afghanistan a state?). Probably the best class/professor I took at ASU outside of my major. To this day I feel like an expert on Afghanistan. Write everything down he says, PARTICIPATE, and READ TO RETAIN for his 3 exams. The DEVIL is in the DETAILS here.

Billheimer is a very intelligent but tough professor. His tests can be difficult if you are unprepared. This is a class where you will learn a lot but you will be required to retain a lot. Lecture heavy, no powerpoints here. If you enjoy history he's a great professor, find someone easier if you struggle.

Only graded by three tests- first one, midterm, and final. They get harder and have more content involved as you go. Great lecturer. Just write/type everything he says and keep up with the reading and you'll be fine. Great prof if you like history! Also he's cute af. Get on his good side early on- never have your cell out or be late!
