I am shocked by some of the comments that I saw. I had him for the first semester abstract algebra back in the 1980s. He speaks english very well. One of my mates worked under him for his PhD in algebra. He is a real human being - and one of the better teachers.

Dr. Martinez took a subject of which I had no awareness and truly made it a discovery experience. Abstract Algebra was nothing I had ever considered and opened up a new way of viewing everything.

Makes the class easier by how he grades it. Presentations are worth a lot. Very nice guy, not so good if you want to actually learn the material but you will probably get a good grade if you do well on the presentations.

When I read the bad reviews, I literally do not know who they are talking about. Dr. Martinez is far and above the most talented math teacher I have had at UF. His class requires work on your part, but his passion for the subject and willingness to help and re-explain in office hours (over and over if necessary) make him an absolutely joy to ha

Martinez has an insane capacity to develop complex mathematical statements and proofs on the fly, without notes. Though it requires work on the part of the student, his teaching style builds good intuition. He gives tons of examples, emphasizing interplay between different areas of linear algebra. He is also highly proficient in linear algebra.

Dr. Martinez was one of the best instructors I had in college. He is kwowledgeable, but most importantly, he van convey the material better than any other Math instructor. It is sad to see how some people do no appreciate his incredible ability to teach. These people must be sadly low in Math.

terrible teacher...can't speak English. He wastes the whole class with theoretical **** and doesn't bother to do examples. I got an F in his class, took the same class next semester with an awesome prof and got a 88.

Screwed up teacher with a screwed up personality. He can't teach and when you ask him to clarify he's just as bad, infact he turns hostile when u ask for help. So he can't teach, can't speak english, is not helpful and isn't friendly. WVU'S WORST INSTR.
