Never took a social science course in high school, but this was truly a great course!! There are weekly tutorials, which repeat the information he says in class! Gonda, gives out test topics and essay topics in advance! I agree with everything else mentioned above!! No regrets taking this course, honestly a great person and a better prof!

Joe Gonda and his course SOSC1012 is an absolute jem!! - goes for 100min straight - material isn't the most interesting at times, but he presents it in the best way/makes jokes - Doesn't expect you to know fine detail, just concepts - Gives you a full page to write anything you want on tests LITERALLY, YOUR LOSS IF U DONT TAKE THIS COURSE!

Brutal - had to watch lectures on the Republic online in order to figure out what was going on. It made me realize that it's really not that hard to explain it well, and that he really does not explain it at all. Says random stuff and goes on tangents about random words. Would be fun to get drunk with, awful as a prof.

Joe Gonda is super cool, focuses only on the main parts of the book and doesn't bore with non essential details. He's deep and interesting with a great sense of humour.

I love that man. He is the wisest professor at Glendon. He focuses on important sections of the book and teaches you things about life with real life and everyday examples and analysis of them. There was no tests or exams and the papers are very broad and easy. a B is almost guaranteed.

I'm pretty sure that Dr. Gonda is a nice person. The problem I had with him is that he was simply not a good teacher. I could not stay focused in his classes despite the 10 minute breaks he would give us. He would stray off topic too often, I would find myself nearly snoozing every time I attended his lectures. I strongly recommend you stay away.

Professor Gonda called me a freak infront of an entire lecture hall but even that wasn't as terrifying as having to sit through his lectures. But I'm sure he was just trying to be "funny".... I don't think I will ever forget his humour or my experiences in this course.

Comment:
Professor Gonda is funny but his lectures are hella long and he never gets to the point. No notes .. he gives the answers to the first test and expects students to regurgitate them back to him word for word..... it is a philosophy class but us students must be too dumb to think and write our own answers. Consider bringing a pillow to lecture.

Comment:
Professor Gonda is a charismatic person and is really passionate about teaching. At first, I was very excited to take the course and found the professor very inspirational and intriguing. However, my motivation to succeed in the course dwindled after 3 hour lectures being filled with weird examples and too many tangents. Overall, not a good course

Prof. Gonda is an awesome lecturer; he really knows his stuff and is always there to help his students. He is, however, a tough grader. Although test questions are given out in advance, that does not guarantee one's chances to securing grades of A or A+ on the tests; one has to write exactly what has been said in the lectures. Nice course + prof!

Boring lecturer, nice guy. His tests for this class are poorly worded and basically when asking him to clarify his meaning, he gives the BS philosophy answer of "what do YOU think it means?". He does give test topics before the test, so my advice is to ask him about the questions beforehand and to get his opinion on your potential answer.

This class was easy but boring if you were actually paying attention. The same information was repeated week after week. Test questions are given in advance and the way to do well is to write exactly what's been said in the lectures. Don't bother asking questions as he doesn't really answer them well... he'll probably get to the answer eventually.

He is absolutely my favourite prof so far. He's definitely personable. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but he's so nice that I went anyway. First semester my TA was horrible, probably just consumed by her pregnancy. But second semester the TA totally made up for it! He was nice and helpful and helped clarify anything. Gonda's class was awesome!

Attendance isnt really mandatory in his class if you can grab notes off someone. He's an okay lecturer but for the tests gives u the questions beforehand and lets u write anything on the back of the question sheet and u can take that into the test with you! Everything is pretty much set for you, awesome class!

Concise, clear, and uses great material. His explanation of Plato's Republic is the most comprehensive I have experienced so far.
