Professor Pitti knows so much about California History. If you want an easy class and to just know general stuff go elsewhere. However if you want to learn all sorts of interesting thing about California History, this is the teacher to have. Tons of extra credit availible and an easy teacher to approach and talk to. Great man to learn from.

Professor Pitti really knows his California History. Not an easy class. However, if you do the work, you will get a good grade. Pitti offers a ton of Extra credit and if you take the time to talk to him he is very approachable and willing to help.

He actually expects you to listen to the lectures, read his books and learn the material. If you can't do these three things well, don't take his class. If you want to learn California History, he is your guy. Many, many hours of studying, but well worth it.

This professor is absolutely horrific. What a nightmare of a class. You will be forced to read 1,000+ pages of lecture notes for his tests which will test you on random facts. Totally absurd expectations with no way to live up to them. AVOID

Very good instructor, but unlike so many other history classes, you need to work pretty hard to get a decent grade.

Yes, Pitti is hard. But you are in college now!! He will not spoon-feed you the info, you have to do the assigned reading. The lecture notes are full of interesting information and a few dumb jokes. I really enjoyed this class. He gives pop quizzes or just has you write your name on a piece of paper to get credit for coming to class that day.

Second time taking Pitti (didn't do the reading first time around, which is essential to surviving the course). Called "No pitty Pitti" for a reason; very difficult to work with. Frequently runs behind in lecture, pop quizzes on subject matter only covered in the book/lecture notes, not the Powerpoint slides.Do all extra credit as one way to pass!

Awful experience. First of all to have no other type of assessment other than a multiple choice exam is against all academic theory. Base the assessment on over 1000 thousand pages of dry reading and poor attempts at humor and it becomes absurd. I am now a teacher and would never subject any students such dinosaur pedagogy. Take 183B elsewhere!

Pitti is the epitome of what a college professor should be like. I'm tired of hearing people complain about difficult professors. College is too easy nowadays. Pitti's class is TOUGH, but it's super fascinating, and I would LOVE to hear more about California history from him. Just be thankful you don't have to write the paper. I did!

This class requires the purchase of three voluminous sets of lecture notes and a short book (ALL ESSENTIAL!). There are three, curved, 100 question multiple choice exams from the reading (hard), two multiple essay exams (NOT curved; moderate) and NO paper. You must watch at least 3 movies and write on them as well (easy!) Lots of extra credit.

Learned a lot from this class and the material. The lectures are rather boring, I'm a history major and love the subject but still found myself fighting off sleep several times. Rather nice guy though and gave lots of extra credit opportunities that were pretty easy. No paper, just 3 tests and he gives you a study guide to prepare.

His class is hard, but I didn't even read the last book & still passed with a C. Attendance isn't mandatory since you have all his lecture notes. His TA Luke was extremely helpful. He can be kind of offensive at times, he used the N word in class and when 2 students commented on it being offensive he basically said oh well..basically he's a jerk

Dr. Pitti is a terrible lecturer but obviously very intelligent and witty as seen in his 1000+ pages of notes. Very difficult class - read the notes and study. His lectures offer no help at all - but his TA's are pretty good. If you are a history major then you just have to suffer through this class. . . sorry.

His nickname is No Pity Pitti. He has no pity for anyone. One of my tests was off campus & I didn't get back to campus until the final was half over -I had cleared it with him- but he still only gave me the class time to finish the final.Lectures are rambling. His voice is monotone and people fell asleep a lot.Just a bad class/professor overall!

Professor Pitti is like a walking History book...though he tends to be kind of dry. Anyone can do well in his class if they input the time and effort. He gives study guides for each exam and the terms can be overwhelming. You need atleast one week minimum to studiy for one exam. Stay on top of the material and you will do fine.

pitti is just not a good lecturer. stutters a lot and has many "uh's" and "um's". while i'm sure he knows what he is talking about, well at least i hope he does, he just cannot emphasize what is important. lectures were, at least i felt, extemely disorganized.
